Hook it up to another computer and reformat it. Usually the problem and if you can access it do a complete computer defrag and clean.

Dell XP restart problem

This error comes due to 1. RAM problem or 2.Hard disk problem or 3.Software/device driver problem or some times 4.Virus problem.
First you run the system in safe mode (pressing F8 at booting) - restore the system (start-programs - accessories - system tools - system restore). PC will be restarted and if it runs well then fine. If not again run in safe mode- uninstall few softwares or utilities, clear the temporary files, few drivers - restart the PC it may run well. If it does not run in safe mode the problem may be due to virus or critical RAM problem (main suspects, as the error may be for different reason). Now you format the hard disk and install your applications and drivers one by one and restart and check whether the problem repeats. Failure with the step you should change the RAM. With all failures - motherboard should be repaired and you have to give to the service center.

Reinstalling

Hard drive has bad sectors on it which is why its giving you that message even though you can go thru the restore. Normally going thru the system cd and then the recovery cd should bring you into windows with the device drivers installed.

My computer has stopped recognising the driver for a 500gb Lacie Premier Multimedia Hard disk. It appears as 'Unknown device". how do i locate and replace the driver.

Most USB accessories do not get recognized well when plugged in before startin the computer. The exception seems to be mice. USB hadr drives and flash drives specially seem to have this problem. I always use the disconnect icon in the system tray to disconnect before shutdown and plug them in after windows has stabilized. I even gets worse if you use a USB hub. Some devices will not be recognized when attached to a hub.

On power on of pc i get : windows cannot start because the following system is missing or corrupt \windows\system32\config\system

Hello,
This is due to either a faulty RAM connection (meaning dirty RAM or faulty RAM module), a faulty hard drive or a software corruption. First of all, get your RAM checked, most of the time this problem happens due to bad RAM. Get it replaced if necessary.
If you had to replace it and it still gives the message, then you will need to perform a checkdisk on it. Obtain a Windows Xp cd and boot to it. Choose the Recovery Console. It will ask you which windows installation to log unto. Choose the C drive (usually option 1). It will ask for Administrator password, enter it and then press enter. If there is no password, just press enter. Next, type after the prompt, chkdsk c: /r and press enter. This will take about 15 minutes to half hour. When finished, type EXIT and restart the computer. Let it boot to hard drive this time and it should boot up fine.

Try this and let me know what happens.

Thanks,
Lolita

I don't understand the exact problem you are facing but hope that you are getting your problem due to the processor. If possible, try with dual core processor.
