Dirt and hairs not going into cylinder

The suction on my Dyson is very powerful, but all of the dirt and hairs are getting trapped on top of the filter. I washed the old filter, but the problem continued. A replacement filter failed to solve the problem. All of the seals seem sound. Can anyone tell me how this is happening (it would seem impossible) and what I can do to rectify it?

Thanks in advance,

Pete

It's not the filter that's the problem.  Air should go first to the cyclones, then to the filter, so the filter catches only those finest dust particles that are not trapped in the cyclones.  The most likely cause of the problem is that the cyclone pack is not properly seated, with the result that at least some of the dirt-bearing air is going directly to the filter rather than passing through the cyclones first.

Second thought...  It may also be that some internal part of the cyclone is missing. It is not unknown for seals to get lost during the emptying process. Check with your manual and make sure all the parts are present and correct.

I've just had the same problem: very good suction but most of the dust ends up in the filter instead of stopping in the dirt bin. It turns out that I had lost a coloured piece that fits into the bottom of the bin with rubber seals on it. Easily replaced on eBay with a second hand part!

Dyson DC25 is barely picking up, but what it is picking up is not going into the cannister,

Your problem is posted in the wrong category, so probably no-one reading here (Telescopes and Binoculars etc) will have the solution.

I do know that Dyson maintains Tech Advice lines worldwide. Look here

No suction

check for clogs and maybe the brush roller is too caught up with hair and fabric from the carpet.

Suction is not as it used to be

take out beater bar and pop end cap off and clean out inside of beater bar.

Additionally, this video can help you disassemble your dyson: http://www.ezvacuum.com/dyson-dc07dc14-clutch-assembly-90025204-genuine-p-1636.html

Every time i VACUUM THE DIRT AND HAIR GET STUCK ON TOP OF THE FILTER WHICH IS LOCATED UNDERNEATH THE CANISTER//

There is a black gasket type thing that fits on the bottom of the cyclone part that is supposed to keep dirt and hair from getting down to that filter. Yours is probably missing - mine was. I called Dyson and they sent me a new cyclone for free.

Dyson animal vacuum 07 --5 years old no suction

the only way to fix the problem is to clean out the motor filter that's inside, the filter is around the motor and they don't do replacements for this part, as its not accessible by normal use, you need to remove all the case screws and disassemble the hole case, this site may help you https://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php?topic=76.0

I have a dyson dc17 animal vacuum and hair and dirt gets trapped in the top part of the vacuum. does this come apart?

You can take this apart. There is a very good detailed explanation of how to do this here: http://www.exonotes.com/content/node/4
I have done it. Now it sucks like new!

No suction - Dyson vacuum

Hi If the Dyson is throwing out dirt at the back, it could be three possibilities:
1) The main floor head suction channel is blocked. Check the sole plate where the beater bar is, or if you have a cylinder/pull along model check the floor heads and main extension pipes.
2) Check all the inspection tubes especially the bottom part where the main handle hose is. Also check the filters are clean as well as the Cyclone shroud honeycombs are completely unclogged. Use of the upholstery brush is ideal for dust removal on the cyclones.
3) Check the main inspection areas on the Dyson as sometimes a back log of clogged dirt can get stuck. Also check the dust channel points when then bin is taken out.
Hope all this helps!

Holes in top of dirt bin keep clogging

Make sure that your filter is clean. The holes are normally clogged.
