Black screen. Won't power up.

I have a Viewsonic VP2030b LCD display that flickered on an off a for a few minutes and then finally died. Now, the power light won't even turn on. Any advise would be appreciated.

I spoke with Viewsonic in Walnut, CA then Edwards Group (authorized Viewsonic Service Facility, in the city of industry, they said it would likely be the power supply. Mine went bad 1 month after the three year warranty expired. Part 35 dollars US. Labor 105 dollars, plus shipping insurance.... Im going to try to get the part and change it myself.

This is a common problem on these monitors. There are three or four capacitors in the power supply, three on the inverter board and anywhere from 2 to 6 on the main board that go bad.

The number on the main board depends on how long the monitor has been having problems before it was serviced. The longer the wait, the more capacitors will have gone bad.

The power and inverter boards are easy to repair, the main board is not. As mentioned, it is a multi layer board so removing the old capacitors and the old solder can be troublesome. I would suggest you have someone experienced at soldering repair the main board.

Btw, our shop would charge $60 labour plus $2 for each capacitor.

Viewsonic vp2030b monitor.
If unit still not turning on after replacing caps in the power supply board... you must check and replace "bulged" capacitors on the Main
board also. The min board is a multi-layer board... be very careful not to destroy any solder eyelets.

I have two Viewsonic VP2030B monitors that both died together. Possibly a resolution or scan rate problem but I need a bit of help disassembling the things. The main chassis seems to be held in place...

wa7tuv, If the plastic front "bezel" is very thin and the monitor control and setting buttons are located on the verticle sides of unit, it just may be that the "bezel" will need to be parted from the rear cover, with the glass lcd panel left in the rear panel. Then you will need to remove screws so you can get lcd panel out of the rear cover. You might just get lucky and find a video of some owner/technician doing a tear-down if you search YOUTUBE using "lcd monitor disassembly" or "lcd monitor repair" as search terms. Be very careful and protect the glass lcd screen at all times. It is the most expensive part of the unit. You CRACK the glass, It's you bought it, you own it, Toyota!!!! You could also check with Viewsonic to see if they have a cash+old unit exchange program for out of warranty, but prematurely failed units that will be swapped for same model "refurbished units????? 12fixlouie

My viewsonic VA912b goes thru a few minutes of a cycle upon turning on or waking up where it has a black screen, then a few seconds of normal display, then 10-15 sec of black, then a few seconds of normal,...

Look for bad caps as shown in my pictures, common problem in all brands of LCD monitors.
http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Viewsonic%20VA912B/

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Black screen with pulsing flickers of light

More likely to be capacitors failure in the power supply, worst case will be the lamps. You need to open it up and inspect the caps first, look for cap with buliging top/seal, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors due to bad caps (903b may be the sam as 902b): http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you find so we can guide you further.

Viewsonic VP2030b takes 5-10 minutes to start

Open the monitor, examine the circuit boards. Look for small components that look like small cans, these are capacitors. If you see any that look bulged on top, then your problem can probably be solved by replacing these. Check out the following sites;

Viewsonic VP2030b LCD monitor - No power

There should be one fuse in the power supply inside. You can check and replace that if its dead. now if its not dead and you got power to that point you do need to rule out any capcitors at that time but if the fuse is gone it will not hurt to check the rest of the supply for the fault.

Please rate and accept the answer if it did help.

ViewSonic 19" flat screen monitor goes black - intermittently

Hi,
There could be a problem with your display card settings or the display card itself. If you are using Windows operating system, make sure that you have the monitor driver installed for that specific monitor. This is to ensure that Windows only allows settings for which your particular monitor was designed.
Let me know if I can assist you any further regarding this.
Best wishes,

Monitor going black after a few seconds can be caused by a faulty power supply or inverter. Some monitors have both as one unit.
Sometimes it is basic failed capacitors, After that then I would look at transistors.
The average monitor from 17 to 20 and sometimes the 22s have usually 4 bulbs in them. One bad bulb will also cause the inverter to not fire up.
Bad bulbs usually show pinkish tint, or flickering or are dark at center top or bottom of the display.

Sounds to me that you have a bad connection/wire to the CCFL bulb on that side of the display. Should be an easy fix, do it your selfer thing.
