Question about Toshiba 51H83 51" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Crazy Picture The t.v. has a bunch of scrammbled lines from top to bottom. Sometimes a little stomp on the floor, are a shake of the t.v.(which i know is not good) clears it up for a bit. Just trying to get a little advice on what to do. It looks like when theres something scrambling your tv. The picture is there, but the lines make it a pain to see and rough on the eyes. It has gotten worse, I read were it may be a hyper module, if this is the case is it something I can fix myself, and if so how?

When the floor is jarred a bit or vibrations from walking on the floor the screen turns to to a flipping line in the middle(appears to be the whole screen in one line) and sometimes just goes black. we can...

Your symptom sounds like a faulty solder connections in the vertical deflection circuit.
What you are seeing is called vertical collapse.

If you want to fix this yourself and are handy with a soldering iron, it is not that difficult. Just look for the vertical IC will be a black IC with straight legs mounted to a heat sink, generally in the center of the circuit board that has the big black flyback on it with the red wire attached to the top.

Note: Be careful when working on a television as the CRT and other capacitors can hold a charge that can be very dangerous.

Because your set can be fixed by vibration on the floor, you can look for poor solder connections in the Vertical circuit.

I would suggest that you contact a local service center and see what the cost of a service call would be and weigh that with doing it yourself. You may find it a good deal to have them do the work instead.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

I think it's called "tubes" for the TV, the projection tubes are messed up, and you probably killed your bulbes. Very expensive to fix, just part out what can be used and get a new TV, or get a 60" tv with a smashed screen, and reuse your screen. People sell those on all the time with broken screens because they do not know how to replace them for only 100-200$

Hi, That`s an easy one, you have a bunch of broken solder joints on the sweep board, if you are proficient at soldering you can fix this yourself, if you are NOT then call a tech out, this is a cheap, quick repair, get it done and start enjoying your set again, hope this helps, Happy Holidays.

Toshiba 51h83 projection t.v. scrammbled lines across the screen.

I've seen this problem before with Toshiba sets. Normally it's been caused by the hyper module. Usually, the set is worst when first turned on and clears up some, if not completly after it warms up. The problem does get worst over time.
