I have a new Phillips VOIP841 internet
phone that I use with skype.
'The trouble is that , after working well for several days, it suddenly seems to be
stuck at "system is starting up". it never
goes past this!!!
When I try to see anything with skype - contacts, etc. it gives me a red exclamation
I can't change date or time or anything
else because i get the red unailable.
I've tried taking out the batteries and starting over but no luck!!
What do I do to get my phone working again?
DeRegister the handset and then reregister it to the base
1 ) press Reg. Register shall be highlighted. 2 ) press Page key on the base unit until the two indications turn off. If registration is successful,the signal icon displays steadily. If registration failed,repeat the above procedure.
I had the same problem and managed to solve it by chance: I pushed the button on the bottom right of the phone (the one with a key and a #) it asked me if I vanted to unlock the system und to push the *a/A button to do thie. And it worked!
I had something similar. After trying several things, I figured out, that the power socket of the skype box was little shaky in my case. I had to replace the adapter, because of different voltage in Germany. Maybe the new plug doesn't fit exactly. After fixing this, the connection is stable again. Worth to check it. R.

The VOIP321 from Phillips does NOT connect to your wireless router. It requires to be plugged into a USB port on a WINDOWS ONLY desktop computer, which needs to be left on/logged-in with Skype running to send and receive calls. It wont work with Vista either.
Additionally Since Skype Version 184.108.40.206 (Release date: November 19, 2008) and all later versions (including Skype 4 Betas) the software Phillips supply no longer works with Skype and the VOIP321 phone. The latest VOIP321 <a href="http://tinyurl.com/6b2xrp" rel="nofollow">driver from their website</a> suffers the same issue, even though it states "The VOIP321 USB Phone Driver V 3.8.3 which can be downloaded from Philips web site is compatible with Skype software version from V2.0.0.x until V3.8.0.x". This is plainly no longer correct with the latest stable release of Skype, V220.127.116.11.
Skype developers are <a href="https://developer.skype.com/jira/browse/SPA-599" rel="nofollow">unable to do anything about it</a> and Phillips wont update their driver (Quote "... no more development/fixes are being incorporated into the VOIP321.EXE file"). Phillips would probably rather sell you a newer bit of hardware.
Don't waste your time on Phillips Skype phone devices, as their driver support is lacking when Skype is updated, so you buy a product for a few hundred dollars and it becomes useless 12 months later.
Another reason to not purchase the Phillips Skype phones is that it is Windows Only. No Mac or Linux support or drivers offered.
Try retrieve the IP address of your VOIP841, on the handset press the “Menu” button, navigate to the “Settings” menu and choose the option “Network”, then "DHCP", it should give you an IP address, make a note of this. Open your Internet browser and type in the IP Address of the VOIP841

Probably there is typo when entering user name or login. Check and see perhaps there are some unnecessary spaces in user name or password. Also make sure internet connection is on and working + router is configured to accept new connection.
Yes, If your phone supports SIP then you should be able to program any service provider. On the other hand if this is a Skype only phone then you will not be able to use it with any other service besides Skype because they use a non-standard protocol. This says in the Tech Specs that it is voip client and softphone compatible (whatever that means). It doesnt say it is SIP compatible. So look up the user manual and if it says that your phone is SIP compatible then you should be able to program any VOIP service provider (90% of them are SIP based) but if all the manual mentions is Skype and nothing else, then you might be out of luck. - You need to upgrade to the latest firmware. This is available from the Philips website. Make sure you select exactly the model of your phone. There are some instructions about how to upgrade the firmware in the manual
- Then you need to perform a reset of the system. ie: get a sharp tool and ram it into the tiny little hole on the black box which comes with the phone. If you don't do this after upgrading, it doesn' t work.
- One other tip is to check the firewall settings on your router allow the traffic in/out as well.
I called the Philips service center, and they were a bit useless, but they said if it doesn't work you could try taking the batteries out of the phone for 4 hours. Hmmmm... only try this if the above doesn't work!
