Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

1999 Ford Contour - How do you get the alternator out!!!

My husband is beating his head against a wall, the alternator is bad on our 1999 Ford contour and he can get to it to replace it. we do not have a lift liek they have in garages and he has taken the tire off but you can't get the wrench aroung the screws because they come in from the other side and theri is no space.

2.5L Engines

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Release the drive belt tensioner and remove the drive belt from around the alternator.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4. Remove the passenger side front wheel and fender well splash guard.
  5. Disconnect the passenger side outer tie rod end from the spindle. Refer to the Suspension & Steering Section.
  6. Remove the exhaust system Y-pipe.
  7. Unplug the connectors and remove the cables from the alternator.
  8. Remove the alternator brace retaining bolts and the brace from the vehicle.
  9. Remove the passenger side halfshaft, as outlined in the Drive Train Section
  10. Remove the alternator mounting bolts and remove the alternator from the passenger side fenderwell.

When draining the machine makes noise

If there is a back panel on the machine you can access it from there, if it has a enclosed back then you will have to lean the machine backwards against the wall to get underneath to access it. The pump has two wires attached to it make sure the power is off & lead removed from wall before you unplug them otherwise you get zapped. The drain pump is held into the pump casing/housing by three Phillips head screws. Undo the screws remove old pump and replace with new pump, make sure rubber seal is on the new pump before installing. You will need a torch & a Phillips head screw driver.

I washed by wedding ring and now its gone is there anyway that my husband can take apart the washer and find it?

There is a catch filter in the large hose going to the drain pump from the tub, it will be in there.

On high spin the drum bangs against the rear inside walls of the cabinet. Dents are noticable from where it violently shakes.

There is usualy a switch located under the agitator that senses when the machine is spinning off balance. What are you drying? But it sounds like a bad off-balance switch.

While I was driving my 1999 ford contour se, I RPM gage began running at 5,000 and the speedometer jumped to 80 mph while I was in park. I then heard a low buzzing noise coming through my radio. My car...

I would bet the problem is somewhere in the wiring. It sounds to me like you have a short, most likely in your sensor wires for your tachometer and/or speedometer.

You should look under the hood and follow the wires from the tranny if you can. Another trick I've found helpful is to park the car in the garage and turn all the lights off and then try to start it. Look in the engine and see if you can spot any arcing.

This would also explain your battery problems.

I have a Kenmore 110.22642 it started to wine for awhile and now it just fills up and drains no turning spinning nothing. My Husband who is not mechanicly inclined at all took the back off of the washer...

how old is this machine. if it is less than ten years old there is no belt. more than likley you have a broken drive coupler. never take the back panel off. tip the washer back and look under it. you will see the pump attached to that you will see the motor directly behind that you will see the drive coupler it couples the motor to the transmission this is a very common failure. check it out and let me know. please do not tip the washer all the way over it will damage the unit. tip it back and lean it against the wall.

Have autozone, or advanced auto check your altenator for proper voltage. You could be getting good amps to charge the system but the regulator in the altenator could be going bad and causing it to spike in charge or not push out enough voltage at all. This is normally a free test. Also, you may need to check the battery terminals for corrosion.

Top load washer spin cycle not working sound but no action

There's a good chance that it's something as simple as the drive belt having come off.

Disconnect the power and pull the machine away from the wall a bit then tip it back a little (judge "a bit" and "a little" so the top of the machine leans against the wall without risk of it falling in either direction) and have a little peek underneath without putting your head in harm's way.

If the belt is off, you're best to replace it with a new one. Prop the front of the machine up with something secure before you try to manhandle the new belt into position.

Bad shacking during the spin cycle

Remove top of machine and check the centralising springs are still attatched. If springs ok tilt machine against the wall after unplugging from the wall socket and check the shock absorbers. One of them could have jumped out of the guides. If shockies are ok, check the spider for cracks/breaks. The spider is the cast part that holds the outside drum in place. To check this you will have to remove the back plate.
