Question about Polaroid TBX-2000AF 20 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo

1 Answer

Audio I bought the Polaroid TV/VCR/DVD from Target in March. It was a floor model, so there's no warranty. Recently the audio has been flickering off and on -- usually turning it off for a bit helps, but it is finally totally gone. The TV was generally on mute during its use as the floor model, so the only problems I should have would be with the screen. Any suggestions as to simple ways to fix it? I'm hesitant to open it up myself but would rather not have to pay to have it transported and repaired at a shop.

I would first see if the audio output stage is functioning properly. I would do this by plugging into the audio output RCA jacks with an audio amplifier and seeing if the audio is breaking up there if not the problem is in the stages after the jack tap off point if the problem is still present in the RCA jacks then the problem is before the RCA jacks. Now I would also take voltage readings of the audio output IC chips this includes bias voltages and the output signal voltages. of the input and the output of the chips (in case of stereo). This will tell you if you need to replace the audio ICs or not. Now what could be happening is that the audio control circuit could be at fault for this you will have to check the voltages on the command processor. There is no simple way to repair this problem, which does not involve opening it up. However there is a way to bypas, and I mean bypass the problem "THIS IS NOT A FIX" If the audio out of the RCA jacks is not effected you could plug an audio amplifier into them (Left and Right Stereo) and use the amplifier as your audio output. This is not a good practice, but it will get you by. I would suggest getting the set fixed though.

Adding vcr & rec to a '93

Please hook up VCR with TV through RF cable and check picture of VCR playback in TV.

Now you can hook DVD player video-audio out in VCR input and can have dvd playback picture in TV via VCR modulator.

If you want to listen sound via receiver then hook audio red-white cable between VCR audio out and receiver audio in terminals.

Let me know exact model numbers of units to help you out more.
Thank you.

No color and no audio

yes , this is why , on your dvd there is a "yellow for video" output on it ,and then there is a "red output jack for right audio"
and then there is a "white output jack for left audio" does your tv have these inputs?

the blue , green and red "RCA JACKS" are called " composite video" which seperates the colors of given video

the red and white RCA jacks are for right and left audio and are required when using composite or the yellow video jack

there is also a "s-video" connection that is one cable but seperates the colors for better picture quality ( dvd player only)( vcr and tuner do not work with this)

then there is a optical or coax digital connection for a reciever that decodes the connections audio digital signals for dolby digital surround sound

Connecting older model quasar to dvd/vcr player (magnavox)

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, the only reason you would need/use a modulator is when the DVD/VCR has no RF OUT and the Quasar TV has no Audio/Video IN. If this were the case, then connections would be:
  • yellow Video Out of DVD/VCD to yellow Video IN of modulator;
  • red/white Audio Out of DVD/VCR to red/white Audio In of modulator;
  • modulator RF Out to RF/ANT/CABLE IN of the Quasar;
  • TV has to be set to either Channel 3 or 4;
  • if Modulator has no RF OUT but instead has a small antenna, still the TV has to be set to either Channel 3 or 4.
If however, the DVD/VCR has an RF OUT, then a coaxial patch cord from this could be connected to the RF/ANT/CABLE IN of the Quasar. The TV has to be set to either Channel 3 or 4. There would be no need for the modulator.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

No audio when using VCR/DVD player

the first thing that you need to do is use the video cables and audio cables that are on the back of the unit. This makes sure that you have sound and video.

Is simply. get the audio/vido cables and look on the back of the TV and connect from the audio video outputs from the combo to the audio video inputs on the tv. remember the colors of the terminals and connect them that matches the red, white (audio) and the yellow (video). Using the remote locate the button "input" or "source", and select video 1 or 2, depending where you connected it.

No signal

Try connecting a DVD or VCR and use the video and audio from there to connect it to the audio and video input on your TV.
