On the remote that came with your TV, press the Display button, which is directly below the Volume Up button. Pressing it once displays the channel number and time, pressing it twice displays the channel number continuously, you must have accidently pressed the Display button twice. Channel displaying on Samsung 32"LCD TV

Most remote controls have a "display" button. Pressing that is what gets that channel number on the screen. Try pressing it again and the display should turn off. On some brands the display may cycle through various combinations (channel number only, channell and time, etc.) before it goes away, so it may take more than one press of the button.

Delay with channel surfing

Two things I would check before contacting JVC. In the on screen menu does it have a setting under tuner controls to disable AFC? It sounds like the tuner is seeking the proper channel frequency before it locks it in and displays a picture. If there is no such setting, then I would try a channel autoprogram in the cable mode. I'm assuming you have no cable or satellite TV box hooked up to the set. JVC is usually a pretty good brand name.
