IC replacement didn't solve convergence problem for 57HX83
I got this tv from a friend who didn't want to deal with it anymore.
The convergence was bowed in on all sides and all three colors didn't align, so I assumed both IC's needed to be replaced.
After the install, I also checked resistor values, but nothing changed. My friend said he had talked with someone and they said they thought it had something to do with the eeprom chip. Which one? I don't know, but I'm up for any suggestions of what else it could be.
Can I use image code or html code to post an image?

Re: IC replacement didn't solve convergence problem for...
The convergence in any tv is as this analogy:
a pencil, a hand and the brain.
i would say the pencil is the joke and the ic (convergence amplifier) together.
the hand is a copy of a program that always do the same.
and the brain has an original program plus the eeprom to help him.
and what ?(maybe you can say)
dont worry about the brain first.
repair the conergence (three rectangules in the screen ***maybe not matching*** red blue and green) but perfect rectangule
To make this in your tv maybe you have +/-20 v maybe missed. the IC convergence amplifier damage. all resistors o some burn or different value or need new amplifiers. fixing this you get your rectangule.
is easy to know in the copy of the program is corrupted first because the screens are miss matching that make some areas look as colored color Shadows but at least you can adjust up down east west each color in any point with the simple users menu. (you dont save in memory but your tv now looks now good adjusting here. but next day: bye bye adjustment.
if your tv need this kind of solution. you need first to know how to navigate inside the manufacure native program. and second this kind of repair is so critical that you need to buy the parts that maybe have not program at all. and you need to download that with manufacture original program and make sure your program corresponds with the version of that particular tv (dont worry most of the time the program it shields perfect so most of the time you dont lost it, (but the don't even thing to start to dig in that area, better take it easy and resolve it in the other steps). good luck!
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. goodluck!

It's the large integrated circuit (IC) that controls and coordinates all the settings to do with the various convergence controls in a projection TV. It may also store various convergence memories required to deal with different type of signal.
theire is 2 things could be wrong
1 cotaminated coolant in the crts this isnt something you can repair yourself and would need a proffesional to do this.
the other problem could be a convergence problem have ytried adjusting all the setting on your control if this dont solve problem then you probably need to get the convergence amps replaced this is also difficult to do your self as you would have to spend about 1000 pound uk on the right equipment to test not just the amps but any resistors that could be on way out or gone as this could lead to the convergance problem both these jobs are best left to a profesional sorry couldnt offer anymore help but their isnt much you can do yourself without spending a fortune on the righ equipment.
You would also need to be able to understand spec sheets and follow circuit diagrammes to trace any problems let me know what you want to do.
I can tell you where to get the spec sheet from ok and info on the parts you will need to replace but you will need to test resistors and ic to be sure on what you need to replace
If your tv is not a DLP the problem is in the convergence, try to adjust it using your original remote control go to the setting menu then to the convergence section. Adjust the red and blue convergence. you should move the red and the blue in up, down and left, right if this color does not move far enough your convergence IC is already defective. Replacing this convergence IC will solve the problem. In locating this convergence IC you should remove the back cover of your unit but be sure to unplug it before doing this. This convergence IC is attached to a large aluminum plate, it is the heat sink, and it has a marking of stk- ### followed by numbers. You can try to pull it out using a soldering iron and soldering pump but be careful you may damage the board and cause much problem to your unit. Or you can contact a technician to do it for you and save you from stress good day and best regards.
The tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead. The tv convergence board have dead 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all of it resistors too.The tv convergnece board, must have these parts changes on the tv convergence board to solved the tv picture convergence problems. The shop, will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.
I don't know if you can buy the boards anymore, ive always replaced the IC checked the resisters, i can point you to two websites that have instructions. http://cmpalmer.blogspot.com/2006/11/fixing-my-own-tv-part-ii.html http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm i would also replace the IC with the stronger ones stk392-180's and i would replace both no matter what.
Hi, you have a failed convergence circuit, you didn`t list model & chassis number so I can`t tell you which IC`s your set uses. this is not an easy job for a layperson that has never done this before, (requires removal of main board and un-soldering two large IC`s and replacing them) If you want more info ask away but be sure to give model/chassis so I know which set were dealing with, good luck, BMW Rider
