Previously, the washing machine would fill and wash as normal but would not empty or spin. After a while it would beep every second and have an unusual display of lights on. I am assuming this means it cannot spin as the water has not drained. I contacted the authorised repairer and was told at least 3 weeks before they could come out. (Very handy with a baby). Managed to get a retired repairer in and he told me it was a broken wire and if I had gone with the authorised repairer they would say I needed a whole new part for about $250. Machine worked fine again until this morning. Repairer is unavailable. I drained most of water out and looked underneath and found the broken wire. Repaired it, started the machine again but it is still not draining. There is only one repairer out here in the sticks and very slow, unreliable and expensive.

Well it sounds like the drain pump is bad. I am assuming that the wire that you are talking about is the one going to the drain pump but if you can tell me what happened last time before finding that wire that may help narrow down the problem more if the pump turns out to be fine. Most of the time it is the pump in this case, but please get back to me on what happened last time first.

The valve also needs to open for the water to drain instead of recirculating the water. Is the water circulating during the wash or rinse cycle? If yes, check the diverter valve. Follow the drain hose to the valve - check for lose wire, if it getting current, remove wires, check conductivity. etc. It may have 120 Volts, so be careful. Do at your own risk.

Washing machine will not drain

Since you've already checked the pump, hoses and motor, here are some additional issues to look at:

1. Faulty timer: Does your machine fill with water and begin agitating, but the cycle never advances far enough to allow the water to drain? The timer that controls the cycles may be broken. Arrange for washing machine repair service.

2. Worn or loose belts: Are clothes still soaked at the end of a wash, even though the washing machine appears to go through the spin and drain cycles? The timer that controls the cycles may be broken. This is a job for the pros.

3. Faulty or jammed internal impeller on pump: When the spin cycle starts, do you hear a humming noise? The internal impeller that moves the water through the drain pump may be faulty or jammed. A grinding or grating sound is almost always an indication of a coin, button or other object colliding with the impeller. Have a washing machine repair expert determine if the impeller is jammed and can be cleared, or if the pump needs to be replaced.

Hi, our washing machine started leaking water underneath just the weekend gone. I didnot see where the water was coming from but my wife tells me that she started the washing machine as per normal as...

It is so common that the drain leaks in many ways and is the most problematic fault in a washing machine. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that water has leaked then as the drain hose pump/valve and fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for possible leaks here. In some cases the drain hose would be clogged at the drain end to outlet of the house and so there will be back flushing resulting in overflow to the outside. Also the drain pump/valve can be clogged or the drain hose clamps can be loose on the grip which can all cause the leak to occurs. Removing and Cleaning the drain pump/valve, tightening of the hose is also very important. Also water can leak if there is gaps on the front door gaskets and must be checked but this will happen only during the cycle and not on the drain cycle end. You have indicated that the spin was activated to drain off and so the drain exit seems good . Hence I would advice that you check the drain hose fittings and drain pump. Check once again to confirm if this was a program controller malfunction of the cycle. finally keep your machine in slight slant /tilt so that the water drains off fully to the exit valve.

E23 indicates Drain pump faulty; Wiring faulty; PCB faulty.

The service information also says it should stop with the door open.

Unplug the appliance and manually remove the water via the filter or front drain point if it's fitted.

Drain it into a shallow dish, tighten the filter when you need to stop the water (or plug the hose if draining via a hose) while you empty the container.

Once empty, try the door again.

Take the filter out and clean out any debris in it.

Plug the appliance in and put the machine on a drain programe.

Listen/look at the open filter to check that the drain pump is running.

Here are the symptoms: - Wash cycle seems ok but can not be sure. When complete the rinse commences but am unaware what happens next. This is what I have done Started washing clothes and waited for cycle to end(!) or problems start. Switched off and set program knob to rinse. At this point I select spin and after a while the water starts to empty. When a sufficient amount has emptied I stop the spin (no spinning has began), and set the knob to wash again. This now allows clean water to rinse the clothes and when I think it has rinsed enough I set the knob to off then spin again until all the water has emptied. When the drum is empty the spin cycle should continue but does not. What happens is there is a clunking sound and the activity light goes out again, when it comes back on the machine tries to start the spin again and the sequence is repeated.
