Hello octoberburni,

No it is not normal for the amp to stay on when you turn the ignition off. And yes, it will definitely drain your battery if this condition is not corrected.

Use a multimeter set to volts and check between the ground connection (right connector) and remote turn-on connection (center connector) on the amp itself. You should have approximately 12V when the ignition and your head unit is on. And 0V when they are off. If you measure voltage when the ignition and head unit are off, either the incorrect wire is connected to the remote terminal, or the defect is in your head unit. If you measure OK, that is voltage present when ignition and head unit are on, and no voltage when they are off, then the problem is most likely in the amp itself. If you find voltage on the remote wire all the time, check to see that it is coming from the correct output from the head unit. Most aftermarket head units use a blue or a blue/white wire for the remote amp turn-on lead. Many (most) stock OEM receivers do not have a remote amp turn-on lead. But they may have a power antenna lead which will serve the same purpose. In any case, just insure that the correct wire is connected to the amp. It should have voltage when the head unit is on and no voltage when the head unit is off.

In either case, if everything else is still working with the amp, you can simply wire in a manual toggle switch to turn the amp off or on whenever you desire. A SPST (single pole-single throw) toggle switch is what you need. If the problem is in the head unit wire, put the toggle switch inline with the remote wire and mount it somewhere handy on or near the dash. If the problem is not in the remote wire, you'll need to put the toggle inline with the main power wire, the one marked "12V" (left connector) on the amp. In this case, you need to make sure that you have a heavy duty toggle switch, one that will handle more amps than your primary fuse. You may need to look under the hood for the fuse to check it's value.

Hope this helps.

Harmon Kardon Receiver "Protect" Mode issue

If your receiver enters protect mode with no speakers connected, it is an indication that you will have to start troubleshooting inside. This will involve visual checking and checking with a multimeter to isolate the problem. A further issue is finding out why your JBL woofer keeps blowing fuses. It could be shorted.

How do you bridge a JBL GTO7001 amp

JBL do not suggest bridging this amplifier. As it is a mono block, the "stereo outputs that are on the amplifier go to the same contacts inside", so effectively both Left and Right outputs are the same, (like using a headphone splitter.) this is designed for ease of use when installing more than one subwoofer. if you run your sub/s at two ohms you will be able to get the full 700WRMS out of this unit.
so in effect if you "bridge" this amplifier it will not be any different if you hadn't. Bridging is designed for TWO or more channel amplifiers to increase the power going to the speakers, but not needed in a mono block amplifier.
I hope i have helped you with your problem and please dont forget to rate my solution.
cheers

MY GTO 7001 HAS ITS LIGHT WORKING, BUT NO POWER COMING OUT.

Make sure your rca jacks are plugged into both your headunit and amp. Also make sure that the amps filters are set so that the amp plays all frequencies and doesn't block out any.
