Question about Sewing Machines
I am looking for a reputable place to get a manual for my Singer 414 sewing machine. I tried to buy one online, but have not heard anything from the company - luckily my credit card has not been charged either. I'd like to know how to adjust the tension, etc. Just, anything I should know about it. Does anyone know of a good place to get a manual? Thank you! P.S. Since there is no 'Sewing Machine Expert' category, I guess I'll just pick one - since it's making me... :)
Try Googling (singer)(414)(manual) without parens. Avoid sources that promise everything because they will deliver nothing.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I had the same problem straight out of the box. I decided to buy a new machine and came across the 4166. It had more than enough functions and seemed to run smoothly. I too have problems with the bobbin not threading so I took it back into the store thinking I was doing something wrong. The saleswoman had the same problem. I was going to exchange it for another but before leaving I wanted to check to see if it worked. Again, same problem so I left without a machine. I spoke to the owner only to be told that 30% Singer machines are lemons and have to be returned for servicing because they don't work from the start. This is a waste of money and time.
The only suggestion I can offer is to either forget about the machine or take it into be serviced.

SOURCE: I need a free manual
This was very difficult to find, but I found it just for you! Please
make sure you rate my answer 4 thumbs up! Thanks so much for
understanding, it would be a huge help to me. I would be forever
grateful if you could do this for me. To view the manual you will need
adobe reader, which you can get for free from http://get.adobe.com/reader/
You probably already have it though, please try opening the file first
and find out. If you require some other manual, the file doesn't work,
or this isn't what you are looking for PLEASE reply to my answer here
and I will correct it for you. Here is the manual / guide please give
it a few minutes the file is quite large:
The closest I can find is the 431 manual, which was very difficult to locate. I had to save it to my personal computer and then put it on my webserver for you.
(The 431 is like the 401 except the 401 doesn't have chainstitching and free arm applications....)
Here is the manual:

Go right to the Singer Company website. They should have the appropriate manual for your model on line that you can either save to your computer or print out.
