Question about NetGear WGT624 Wireless Router

1 Answer

Netgear installation I tried to install a Netgear router in my laptop for wireless connection but when I plugged it in, the status says that I am connected to Internet but I cannot surf online. What can be the problem? How to install the netgear correctly so I can use wireless on my laptop and my pc in another room? Thanks.

Thanx for reply. I sorted out by phoning the netgear customer service. I couldn't believe that I was so stupid and didn't set up the Netgear Wizard first. I did the 192.168.1.1 but did not set up a wizard installation. So now it's working perfectly well. Thanks again for the link. I may use it for the future!

I am trying to set up my Avertec N1200 laptop with Windows XP to my Netgear wireless router. The router does not have a USB connection, but I have a Netgear wireless USB adapter. Also, I am getting the msg...

The Netgear Wireless USB adapter should be connected to your Avertec N1200 laptop to act as a wireless antenna. The driver for your Netgear Wireless Adapter should also be installed on your laptop. Once installed, click on the Windows Orb button on the lower left corner of your screen and go to All Programs. Look for the installed program for your Netgear Wireless Adapter to open up the wireless utility of your wireless adapter. That's where you should connect the wireless connection and not on Windows Wireless Manager.

You might not be getting a correct ip from your wireless router.

first, try to power down the computer and your netgear router for about a minute or two. turn the router on first. once the lights are stable on the router, boot up your computer. if your still not able to access the internet. try this

go to start > control panel > network and internet > network connections or network and sharing center > right click on wireless network connection and go to properties > highlight "internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" > left click on properties, the wireless network connnection properties will then be opened.
make sure that the radio buttons are on "obtain an ip address automaticaly" & "obtain DNS server address automaticaly".

Installation of netgear dgn2000 wireless router on vista.

I understand that you are facing trouble with the installation of the router as the CD does not work. Please perform the below steps to install the router without using CD:

1. Connect the cable/phone line coming from Internet Service Provider to the WAN port of the router(isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports.
3. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
4. Access the router, usually by typing 'http://192.168.0.1' or 'http://www.routerlogin.com' in the address bar.
5. Login to the router (username = admin password = password unless you have changed it).
6. Click 'setup wizard'(at the top of list) from left menu.
7. Select yes and click next.
8. It should give you a "PPPoA Detected" and then click next.
9. Enter the login and password of ISP click apply.
10. Once the settings are updated click on 'router Status' and click on 'connection status' button(at the bottom of the page).
11. Click on connect button.
12. Connecting to server should show 'connected'.
13. If you receive 'CHAP authentication failed', close the 'connection status' window and click on 'Basic settings'. Check the login and password for ISP and apply the setting again.
14. Open up another browser window and try to access internet.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Problems connecting my laptop to wireless router

Make sure that you do the setup via cable, not through wireless!
If you change form WPA to WEP, the length of the key changes and you will have to provide this new key if you want to connect wireless to your router.
You can leave your laptop connected via cable and check if your wireless card can connect.
No, you don't have to reinstall everything again. Just plug in the cable, connect to your router (192.168.x.x) and check your wireless setup.
