I have just recently had to reinstall Windows XP Home edition onto my computer and now i find that there are no network connections and i tried to create one that is exactly the same as the one that i have...

the drivers for your wireless card is not installed...

start > run > type--->>> devmgmt.msc and click ok...

you will see the device manager...

select network adapters on the list...

you must have the wireless card listed a right click on wireless card and select properties, you will see the device status...the device status must say that "the device is working properly"
if you dont find the wireless card under network adapters then you will find it under other devices or unknown devices...or you can see an yellow exclamation mark or question mark in the device name...
it says the device driver is not installed properly...
you need to install the driver from the cd that is given by the computer manufacturer...if you dont have the cd then you need to download the drivers from the manufacturers site and install them on your computer...

if you dont find your device any where in device manager then it says that the device is not detected by your computer... in case of laptop you need to make sure that any switches for wireless card is turned ON..

have a look at my routers and other essential tips...

Installation of netgear dgn2000 wireless router on vista.

I understand that you are facing trouble with the installation of the router as the CD does not work. Please perform the below steps to install the router without using CD:

1. Connect the cable/phone line coming from Internet Service Provider to the WAN port of the router(isolated port).
2. Connect the computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports.
3. Open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari).
4. Access the router, usually by typing '' or '' in the address bar.
5. Login to the router (username = admin password = password unless you have changed it).
6. Click 'setup wizard'(at the top of list) from left menu.
7. Select yes and click next.
8. It should give you a "PPPoA Detected" and then click next.
9. Enter the login and password of ISP click apply.
10. Once the settings are updated click on 'router Status' and click on 'connection status' button(at the bottom of the page).
11. Click on connect button.
12. Connecting to server should show 'connected'.
13. If you receive 'CHAP authentication failed', close the 'connection status' window and click on 'Basic settings'. Check the login and password for ISP and apply the setting again.
14. Open up another browser window and try to access internet.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Problems connecting my laptop to wireless router

Make sure that you do the setup via cable, not through wireless!
If you change form WPA to WEP, the length of the key changes and you will have to provide this new key if you want to connect wireless to your router.
You can leave your laptop connected via cable and check if your wireless card can connect.
No, you don't have to reinstall everything again. Just plug in the cable, connect to your router (192.168.x.x) and check your wireless setup.
