I just bought a Evaporative Air Cooler SF-614P.
It worked great now zip
I bought it on eBay, but I wanted to get a air conditioning unit.
The seller sent me not a shipping label, but insisted it was.
eBay stepped in saw said Shipping label, and agreed it was not one.
He gives me a refund after many weeks of asking him for a shipping label, but he just keeps asking for more time.
OK so I called the company and tell them it doesn't work.
They said well you got a refund. It was only due to his not providing a shipping label.
Then he says "JUST KEEP IT "!!!! HE WAS MAD.
I am going to make them honor the qaurentee.
Also they say I have to get a box, and pay for the shipping label.

evaporative coolers use a principle of blowing air though a filter that is water moist
the air passing through the water uses a heat exchange process as the water boils off, the air is cooled and so you get cooler air
very efficient in places where the humidity is under 80% but over that the water doesn't evaporate all that readily and so the effectiveness is reduced
basically the hotter the day and the lower the humidity the more efficient they are.
Cheap --yes as it only runs a small motor for the fan and an even smaller motor for the water pump, but you will need a regular water supply some units have a small tank which needs regular filling and others can be connected to the home water supply
it is not an air conditioner , simply an air cooler.
It is dues to improper air flow. which can be caused by multiple factors.
1. Return Air Vent is blocked
2. Evaporator Fan not working
3. Improper Thermostat.
Is the water cooling Ok. if the thermostat is not ok, the water might be really freezing.
When you say filled with ice/ water, is it just an evaporative cooler? in which case it is really only a fan. If it is a proper a/c unit, try emptying the bin you have filled up and try again. Most a/c units have a water bin that fills and switches off the unit by a float switch until you empty it and it runs again. Let me know how you get on! Mike
Make sure its fully dry before you go plugging it back in. A few days should be OK. If unsure , get a sparky to megger it just in case. If you have an RCD in your house, it will trip if there is anything electrically wrong. Provided there has been no mechanical damage, you should be right.
Hi and welcome to FixYa. The principle of operation of an evaporative cooler is to provide cooler air via evaporation. The evaporation process is achieved by water being pumped over very porous pads with air is drawn through the pads. Most all evaporative coolers unless connected with a centralized heat / cool system only have an on / off & cool function. "On" is fan only (air circulation while using outside air being drawn into the home) and "cool" turns on the pump to pump water over the pads for evaporative cooling. Hopefully I did not confuse you with my answer.
here is the link for the manufacture support page. If has a toll free number for help. If they cant help you, let me know and I will try to get a copy of the manual from them using my company. http://www.sunpentown.com/info.html
paula298, A new unit will take a while for the pad to become wet and more efficient. Remember, there may be two switches: fan and water pump. The unit must be full of water and the pump ON to work correctly.
If the unit has a water pump only setting, run the pump without the fan for about 20 minutes. That will get the pads nice and wet and you should get a good result. A rule of thumb in the desert is 20 to 25 degrees of cooling compared to the ambient air.
Don't use a cooler in closed area. The cooler will simply act like a room humidifier. Use in an open garage or porch for the best result.
