Question about HP Compaq Presario SR2180NX (RK548AA#ABA) PC Desktop
Have vista home operating system, server is att, so had to downloaded McAfee, noticed after downloading, the computer would shut down and restart, for about three days, next morning computer wouldn't startup, screen came up, launch startup repair, did that a number of times and went thru different steps, one was repairing disk errors, welcome came up but after awhile the computer froze, restarted computer this time was able to log on, copied a large number of files to DVD.s ready to shut down for the night had to update McAfee first, this morning same thing couldn't log on, still can't Has any one had this problem, is it the McAfee or somthing else,is there any thing I can do.
Run a full system scan of your computer to see if the download came with a trojan. if nothing is detected. click on start then run and tyoe sfc /scanall to repair any system files that are changed.

I have this machine. Vista 32Bit needs a minimum of 2GB of memory just to run the basics. I was able to get Patriot DDR2-6400 kits of 2MB each stick to install 8GB even though HP supports only 4GB of memory. I used the Low Latency labeled (low density, unbuffered, non-ecc) kits with the tall black heat spreader fins. Frys had them for $70 for the kit of 2 sticks (4GB kit). Forget about salvaging your OS, but since you managed to backup your data, create the restore disks (from the Control Panel) and start from scratch. One suggestion before starting, is to strip your case down and blow out the dust and debris first. Then use a PSU Tester to make sure your power supply is not going to cause you any grief from bad voltage outputs, especially over-voltages. If you test and suspect the original PSU is not right and usually the common problem IS this OEM PSU, then pick up an Enermax 24ATX Pin with atleast 400Watts and dual 12 volt power rails of no less than 16Amps each. Split them between the SATA Drive from the M/B & DVD. Now that the hardware is up to par, your random shut-downs and disk errors should be a thing of the past. That's what I did to fix my same problems on my Presario SR2180NX. Maybe when the faster processors start to go down in price, then I'll install the top of the line to max the speed. Hope some of this helps! -Gregg

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
