Question about Maytag MES5775BAF / MES5775BAN / MES5775BAB Electric Kitchen Range
I have had a Maytag Model MES5775BAB 30" slide-in range for exactly 3 years. The single element in the 3-way burner will not get hot. This burner has two controls - one to select the burner size (single, dual or triple) and the other knob controls the heat.
I guess I need to know about how much this is going to cost to repair. It just really frosts my cake that this element failed after three years.
Thanks for your help.
Sorry to hear this.. but, here is a site that will answer your question more completely.. ( I think this is a complete replacement job).. and if your are mechanically inclined, you might be able to do it yourself... good luck,,
as far as costs... that's such a wide range of "prices per hour or by the job", it would not be feasible to put a $$$ figure on here..

SOURCE: Hot Surface Light Stays On
you do have a top burner sensor that has failed. the hard thing is to figure out which one. most of these units have a 5 year part warranty, but you have to pay for an authorized servicer replace it for you.
if you want to figure it out yourself, you will have to find which of the wires, from the burner sensor, controls the indicator light. its not hard as it is usually the smaller one. each burner has a sensor and if you are certain you can work with the electricity on, its just a process of elimination.
unplug the unit from the wall, then take off the wire from 1 burner at a time, tape it off, to prevent shorting to ground, then plug back in and see if the light has gone out.
then you can order the new sensor, but on some models, you have to get the whole burner and sensor assembly.

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.
You could have 3 different problems.
1. defective gas control valve to the oven
2. defective temp probe
3. defective gas control knob
THIS IS A GAS PRODUCT, INCORRECT REPAIR CAN CAUSE A EXPLOSION, AND DEATH CAN OCCUR. IF YOU DO HAVE THE PROPER TOOLS SUCH AS MANOMETER AND LEAK DETECTORS, I SUGGEST YOU CONTACT A SERVICE COMPANY.
