Question about Intel Desktop Board D845EPI Motherboard

2 Answers

Multimedia Audio Controller has yellow question mark

After trying everything short of a complete re-install and I believe am unable to resolve this issue.

I replaced the motherboard in an Emachines T2984.

I have two that have failed because the power supply has gone out and taken the motherboard with it. D845EPI/D845GVSR, It is running XP home SP3

Everything works except the sound after installing the new motherboard.

If I go t to device manager I have the Multimedia Audio Controller with the yellow question mark.

I run the AUD_ALLOS_5.10.0.6020_PV_RealtekAC97.exe program.
It appears to run properly with no errors.
But the system still shows that there is no driver installed if I go to the Control Panel /System Audio devices. It still shows multimedia Audio Controller and no driver. If I tell it to locate a driver it cannot locate one. Intel’s web site has the same driver as the one on CD supplied with the new motherboard

The board has the ALC202a chip

Whenever I try to locate a driver over the web I get the “Cannot locate driver for the device” message, which is not normal. If I point to the CD with the Realtek driver I get the sane message.

I also tried both of these sequences listed on this link under Audio Drivers Fail to Install

http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-020642.htm#version

I have gone into the bios and turned off the audio as it describes in the link. I also have done the whole .inf sequence and then re-enabled the audio in the BIOS.

Any suggestions?

I am beginning to wonder if a bad audio chip can result in this error?

Hi there. Ok, let's see if I can help.

Firstly, uninstall your audio drivers via Device Manager. Then download and install the AC'97 Audio Codecs from Realtek themselves:
http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

This should then automatically update your audio drivers. Don't forget to restart the system after they have installed. Open Device Manager and see if they are ok.

Let me know how it goes, and if you need me to clarify anything, just reply to this post.

SOURCE: RAM cuantity

The motherboard you mentioned supports DDR1 RAM.

For windows xp and general application 512 MB is enough.
But if you use memory intensive applications like image/video editing then you can opt for 1-2 GB RAM.

No sound device and yellow question mark by multimedia audio controller

Kristilyn,
You will need to download and reinstall the sound drivers into the system or use the Dell Drivers disk that was shipped with your computer to install. You can download the driver from the link below.

No sound from PC, problem with multimedia audio controller

The yellow mark indicated the multimedia audio controller driver was not installed, therefore the audio won't work/no sounds.
You need to identify the make and model of the audio card and if you haven't the audio installation CD then you can download the driver from the manufacturer's WEB site.
Since the repairer fixed your computer, he should have installed the audio driver. I suggest you get the repairer to install the audio driver as it should have been part of the repair service.
Also if you see any other yellow marks against any devices in the DEVICE MANAGER then these will also need the drivers installed.
