Question about MSI N9600GT-T2D512, PCI Express Video Card

1 Answer

I have assemble a new PC with VGA Card (PCI-E) but doesn't work

I have just assembled a new PC. The motherboard is an MSI P45D3 Neo and the VGA PCI-E Card is MSI N9600GT. The processor is Intel E7400 (Core2Duo). The motherboard has no VGA built in . The memories are DDR3 1 GB x 3 modules / 1066 Mhz.
Even though the PC starts and the fans of both the CPU and the VGA work, the PC gives one long and two short POST tones, indicating that the problem is with the video.
The VGA card has a power connector (6 pins) but is not the standard and the cable is not included in the box.
I already tried to interchange the memories, and to put 1 GB at the time. I have also tried to reset the BIOS.
As the VGA card is the only way to have a visual interfase, I'm unable to access the BIOS.
I tried everything and I'm desperate because is the PC of a friend of mine and he doesn't understand technical issues...
Questions: Is mandatory to connect the power connector of the VGA Card? or is optional? It's the only PCI-E card that I have....
How can I troubleshoot this problem and rule out hardware problems?
All the hardare is new with the exception of the case and the PSU. (+400W)...
I will really appreciate to receive a helpful response....
Many thanks
Eduardo

Yes , you need the extra power adaptor to your video card.
I would contact the seller or go to your local computer store taking the video card to make sure you get the correct adaptor.

Using Windows XP 32bit?
Download AND install the Intel INF Drivers.

Need guidance in downloading or installing; post back in a Comment.

Nope? That didn't work?
Then suggest the USB bus on your motherboard is bad.
Use a USB adapter card, in any available PCI slot,

Does the MSI K8n NEO4 Platinum SLI motherboard support the Geforce GTX 550 Video Card?

The MSI K8N NEO 4 Platinum Edition mobo, has an AGP graphics expansion slot. (Accelerated Graphics Port)

It uses AGP graphics cards that are either 4X, or 8X. (Supports 1.5 Volt AGP graphics cards, hence 8X)

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K8N-Neo-Platinum.html#/?div=Detail

Click on the Specification tab. Look under the bold - Slots - subheading.

(Overview, { Which is the tab it automatically opens to}, Specification, Download, Support, News and Awards, Where to Buy )

This is Evga's version of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625

Click on the Details tab. (Overview, Details, Feedback)

Under the bold - Interface - heading, and to the right of the subheading - Interface, we see the interface is - PCI-Express 2.0 x16.

Tells you a lot right off the bat, if you know what you are looking at.

1) The graphics expansion slot you need on your motherboard, is a PCI-Express x16 slot.

You have an AGP graphics expansion slot. (That uses either 4X, or 8X AGP graphics cards)

2) The PCI-Express technology used is PCI-Express 2.0

Therefore the answer is No, Stephen.

[ More info on AGP graphics technology, and PCI-Express technology,

1) AGP:

2) PCI-Express:

Now if someone asks you, why the GeForce GTX 550 graphics card will not work on your motherboard, you can explain why in detail, instead of just saying some dude/dudette on FixYa, said it will not work.

Are you sure some 'Mom and Pop' computer store will not trade out, a decent AGP graphics card, for the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 you have?
Always worth a shot. Just MHO.

Can't connect SATA Hard Drive to MSI PT8 Neo-V Mother Board

You tell where in the System or in the BIOS. In BIOS on the SATA Mode or RAID Mode while in the System you install RAID Software to recognize and detect any SATA or RAID Hardware.
Good luck!

Will only work with agp slot

i would get another agp card and be done with it. these cards can be very cheap now. keep the pci graphics card in the hp. i'm sure that is better than the onboard graphics. good luck.

MSI board-no video or booting.

  1. Clear the CMOS by moving the jumper one step aside which located near the CMOS battery for at least 30 seconds with power cord unplugged, then put it back again to its normal position.
  2. Enter BIOS by tapping Del then load the Optimized Default, then Save by pressing F10 key.
  3. You can customize the BIOS after computer has been starting & running properly.
  4. Please check RAM and VGA card whether they have properly attached in their slots before you do the 1st step.
  5. If all above don't work, please replace your VGA card with other PCI-E VGA card that is still working fine.
  6. If all above don't work either, please replace the PSU with greater output from better brand. You can visit www.corsair.com to calculate how many Watts your system is needed for free.
  7. If hell still can not boot or no display, replace the motherboard
