Those lower end Sony models dont use a dimmer or illumination. The display is constantly one brightness level.
Simply terminate or tape off those wires from the plug.

R&R and dimmer wire color? VRCD400-SDU

Dimmer wire for your car should be RED wire in wire harness, illumination is RED/BLACK. check to see which wire works with a light tester. you should never use the dimmer wire with an aftermarket radio, only the illumination wire. Dimmer wire has fluctuating voltage when you move the dimmer up and down. Illumination wire is a contant voltage of +12V and aftermarket radios use this set up.

Suburu radio wire harness. trying to match up with a new soni deck

Hello uze7, Here is the wiring match up for a 2009 Subaru Forester using the Metra 70-7552 wiring harness: NOTE: The actual harness will be listed as a Nissan harness, but has been used by Subaru since 2007. Also, I'm assuming that your Sony deck uses the standard color code. If not, you should have a manual that lists the function along with the colors. Match the wiring by function, not by color (although the colors may be the same). 2009 Subaru Forester Radio Wiring Color Code: Battery BLUE/RED (+) RADIO HARNESS Accessory YELLOW/RED (+) RADIO HARNESS Ground BLACK (-) RADIO HARNESS Illumination VIOLET (+) RADIO HARNESS Dimmer BLACK/WHITE (-) RADIO HARNESS Power Antenna YELLOW/BLACK (+) RADIO HARNESS LF Speaker (+) BROWN LF Speaker (-) BROWN/WHITE RF Speaker (+) BLUE/WHITE RF Speaker (-) BLUE/YELLOW LR Speaker (+) WHITE/BLACK LR Speaker (-) RED/YELLOW RR Speaker (+) GRAY RR Speaker (-) GRAY/RED Metra Harness: Yellow ? 12V Constant Red ? 12V Accessory Black - Ground Orange ? Illumination v. Dimmer

Good day,

The illum wire goes directly to the headlight switch and tells it when to light up, where as the dimmer wire is variable meaning it would dim up or down with your dash light control. Dimmmer is usually only need on factory radio's and not aftermarket. I suggest wiring only to the illuum lead and do not connect dim. Also about the clock make sure your red and yellow wires are not crossed, yellow is a constant hot and red is only hot when the ignition is on, so if they are backwards the radio would loose it's memory when you turn the key off.

Hope this helps
