Question about IBM ThinkCentre M51 PC Desktop

ESata drive not recognised by Windows XP

Lenovo Thinkcentre running XP.
Wanted to install and eSata drive but only 2 Sata ports on motherboard so yanked out the DVD from one and attached the eSata cable and backing plate. Plugged in a 320GB drive which was recognised in the BIOS as IDE 3 correctly, but doesn't show up as a drive once booted to XP.

Can anyone suggest the next step?
Thanks
Philip

    Thanks for the help.

    I think I missed a simple step.
In startup devices I had not added the device to the list, so was recognised but not in the start up list.
Once added in it showed up in XP.

Windows will not see them because you need to download the SATA drivers for the motherboard from the Asus site.

Download and install to a floppy or USB (advise the latter)
Install windows, and you will get a "press f6 if you want to install a raid device ..."
Press F6 and hopefully, windows will find the drivers, highlight the ones it wants.. the rest should be simple

I can not install windows XP on Toshiba Satellite U300, windows

You must have latest Windows Xp CD .
Latest Motherboard chipset does not recognise hard disk without proper sata raid or sata driver. So you can install sata driver if u have USB floppy drive by downloading latest Sata raid to floppy. At the time of installation you will see a message press f6 to if u need to install raid driver.then press f6 asking for floppy drive and floppy insert press enter to continue.

Device driver problem in Windows XP using a USB 2.0 device on a laptop with USB 1.1 controllers

Disable the USB 1.1 on-board option from the motherboard and install a 2 or 4 port USB 2.0 PCI/ISA card.

These cards are quite cheap these days and will do the trick rather than replacing the more expensive back up external hard drive ESATA/USB 2.0 hard drive.

Gigabyte K8vm800M Motherboard Does Not Recognise Seagate SATA HDD

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE PAST. I REPLACE THE IDE HDD WITH SATA AND AFTER I BOOT IT SAYS NO HARDDISK. IT IS BECAUSE WINDOWS XP HAS NO BUILT IN SATA DRIVER.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IS CHANGE YOUR HARDDISK TO IDE OR INTEGRATE A SATA DRIVER INTO YOUR XP (USE NLITE) OR USE THE FLOPPY DRIVE TO RUN SATA DRIVER ITS INCLUDED IN THE MOBO WHEN BUYING.
