You didn't give much detail. I've seen laptops shut down due to overheating. I've fixed one by using canned air to blow out the insides through the holes in the side of the laptop.

Measure the time for two or three shutdowns. If they are all the same, you have a timer set into the software somewhere. I am not sure about your exact piece of hardware/software, but that is a general starting point to verify if it is a mechanical issue or not. If you are on Windows, check power in the control panel. Check the controll panel if there is a icon for the KVM switch.

We lost the remote for home theater system during our last move. Somehow, the sleep timer got activated, even though there is no remote. How do I shut it off again without the remote?

It's a bit weird that the sleep timer keeps coming every time you power up. Have you let it shut itself down by allowing the sleep timer do it? If it still does it then, and there is no button that will cancel it on the unit itself, try pressing them all, then you will to get either a universal remote or see if there is an original. As I don't know the make or model number of your system that is the best answer I can give.

How to Extend Windows 7's expiry date to 120 days.

‘Rearm’ trick on Windows 7 is done using the similar commands and steps withWindows Vista. Follow these steps to reset and extend activation grace period from 30 days to 120 days in Windows 7:
Install Windows 7 without any product activation key.
After installation is completed, use the Windows 7 for 30 days and wait for the remaining days left to activate Windows counting down to 0, or almost zero.
When the activation grace period (or evaluation trial period) is almost expired or ended, log on to Windows 7 desktop, and open a Command Prompt window (i.e. type Cmd in Start Search and hit Enter).
Type any of the following commands into the command prompt, and then hit Enter:
sysprep /generalize
slmgr.vbs –rearm
rundll32 slc.dll,SLReArmWindows
slmgr /rearm
Reboot Windows 7 to enjoy another 30 days of free usage without worrying about activation nor even need to crack Windows 7.
When the activation grace period countdown timer almost running down to 0 again, repeat the ‘rearm’ trick to enjoy another 30 days of Windows 7 for free. User can run the rearm command for maximum of 3 times.

Why does my computer automatically shut itself down on the same day each week.

There are a couple possibilities...first, when you say shut down, do you mean that it restarts, or it actually shuts completely off? Windows update will auto-run weekly and restart the system if necessary. Otherwise, I'd suspect something with your antivirus scanner settings.

ACRE LAPTOP CONSTANTLY SHUTS DOWN BY ITSELF

It is either an overheating problem where the acer is shutting off to protect the equipment, or it is RAM that has gone bad.

Try cleaning out all the vents and fans as well as you can. If the unit is no longer under warranty, you may want to open it up if you can to ensure a good cleaning. If that is not the problem, I would investigate replacing the RAM.

My laptop turns itself of after 8 minutes - every time i turn my laptop on it lasts for about 8 minutes then turns itself off automatically how do i stop this? My HP laptop keeps shutting itself off after...

Sounds like something to do with a power saving feature either from HP itself or from Windows. It could also be that for some reason your computer is overheating, which it than shuts itself off to protect the processor. I would try playing with your power saving features, and cleaning out the fans.

Receiver randomly shuts off during play

This is the "Protect" mode. It is either a bad speaker, or not good ventilation, or a channel going out in the receiver. Please provide more details about the problem so I can help you better. How long is it playing before it shuts off, does it shut off even if the volume is low? Disconnect the speakers form the receiver and then turn it on and let it play without speakers, if it still shuts off then the problem is not the speakers. More information is needed to better diagnose this problem.
