Re: shutting off promptly

You didn't give much detail. I've seen laptops shut down due to overheating. I've fixed one by using canned air to blow out the insides through the holes in the side of the laptop.

Re: shutting off promptly

Measure the time for two or three shutdowns. If they are all the same, you have a timer set into the software somewhere. I am not sure about your exact piece of hardware/software, but that is a general starting point to verify if it is a mechanical issue or not. If you are on Windows, check power in the control panel. Check the controll panel if there is a icon for the KVM switch.

IOgear KVM not working with laptop

First, you have to make sure that the KVM switch is directly connected to your laptop, and NOT to a docking station.

This KVM switch is designed to work with direct connections to the computers.

Second, the light indicator on the KVM switch is not an indicator for power. It's an indicator to see which port is active. If your laptop is connected to port 2, but the focus of the KVM is in port 1, then the port 1 will have a light, not the port 2.

You may also refer to the user manual of the KVM.

Thank you!

My computers seem to have become somehow linked by the KVM switch

The GCS632U is just one KVM switch. But if you're going to check it out, it has actually two separate connections.

It will just switch once you toggle from one computer to another.

Try to power cycle the KVM switch.

1. Shut off both computers.
2. Disconnect the KVM switch from the computers. (make sure that not even a single cable is connected to the computer, even the audio).
3. Leave it disconnected for 10 minutes.
4. Reconnect the KVM and boot up the XP first.
5. Boot up the Vista, try to toggle from one computer to another.
6. LASTLY, shut off the Vista and see if same problem will occur.

If you get the same problem, then you need to contact IOGEAR and have them RMA the device. Because this is the first time that I heard of this problem.

Thank you and good luck!

Usage of KVM 2-Port USB between 'thin client' and 'Desktop' stopt

KVM are not the most reliable and will fail sometimes. The quickest way to get it back is to plug into a different USB port for the one that is active.

KVM is Starview SV411. I'm Testing Windows 7. The problem occurs with all versions of Windows 7 but does not occur with previous versions of Windows nor with Linux. I set the display to 1680x1050 on...

The KVM switch you have did not support "Active Full-time DDC" which Windows 7 need to keep communicating with all connected systems over the KVM switch. Two solutions: find a DDC Ghost adapter put in between the KVM switch and connected Win 7 system. Or just replace a new KVM switch which support Full-time Active DDC function - such as ConnectPRO new PR or UR serial KVM switches.

I have a kvm switch vista lap and xp desktop stopped working

I've gone through alot of KVM switches. Something in the electronics just gives up. If your keyboard and mouse are the pci type (round connector) then don't switch their locations while the computers are on. Windows won't see the change and you may damage the system. If thy're USB type then switching is OK.

Cannot login to configure Belkin SMB KVM-over-IP swith

This happened to me until I installed the activeX control. Were you prompted for that, and did it install successfully?

After the activeX installed, did it also prompt you to install the secure certificate to access the site without IE prompting about invalid certificates?

Since you've tried multiple machines, I doubt security settings on IE are causing the problem. But my switch did these two actions before I was able to login successfully.

Download AVG FREE. (google it) install it, reboot the pc, tap F8 when your pc starts up to get to boot selector. CHOOSE SAFE MODE (no other options) and then run your virus scan in safe mode. it does take a bit longer to boot into safe mode, patience is golden. this should take care of your problems sir.
