Question about Compaq Presario 7588 PC Desktop
I currently have a Compaq Presario 7588 with the original BIOS Compaq 686C3 dated 12/08/1999 and running Windows XP Home SP3. Also the orginal total ram is 512mb (2 sticks 256mb @ PC 100 SDRAM 168 pin). On the Compaq website under software and driver downloads there is a Rompaq (BIOS) update, dated 07/20/2001. Under the section labeled ENHANCEMENTS there is this sentence "Changes memory buffer strength for configurations of two double size memory modules." Would this update allow me to have a total of 1gb of ram (2 stcks 512mb @ PC 100/133 SDRAM 168 pin) instead of the original total of 512mb?
Although bios update can be "risky" people do it all of the time. As to the ram costing you alot I do not agree. Just saw it on pricewatch for $10

I don't think that this will work! I think 512 is the maximum for it. May be it'll just improve speed a little but it's always risky to update BIOS on older PCs. And this 512 sticks will cost you a lot. I think you better think to buy a new PC. Good Luck!
