Question about Admiral Refrigerators

1 Answer

Admiral system 2000 fridge (1990?) compressor shakes and gives a loud rattle when it shuts off only. When the compressor is off, I can shake it and get the same noise. I have tried to get new ''motor mounts'' but are not available anymore. So I have firmed up the compressor greatly using some old conveyor belting...but to no avail...is the compressor toast? It still cools down the fridge easily.

01Kenmore refrigerator 54524101 how to test if relay is bad

If you're talking about the compressor start relay, you simply need to remove it from they compressor and give it a shake. If it rattles and sounds like there are broken pieces inside, it needs to be replaced. MAKE SURE FRIDGE IS UNPLUGGED! Also, be careful not to touch both leads of the run capacitor, as the y retain voltage for a while even after fridge has been unplugged.

Check the relay on the compressor. Pull it off and shake it. If it rattles, it is bad.

My 2000 Subaru Outback has a loud rattle from the rear gate (ie door)

Check your rear stabilizer bar an make sure that all the bolts are still intact. You may also want to crawl under the vehicle and give your muffler a shake to ensure that no mounts are missing. these are the most common issues associated with rattling from the rear of vehicle.

Compressor makes brief but loud rattling noise when it shuts off. Other than that the refrigerator is operating properly.

There are rubber shock mounts between the bottom of the compressor and the fridge frame, if any of these are worn it can cause that sound. Sometimes the condensate tray is what is actually making the noise; when the compressor powers down it vibrates and causes the metal tray to shake, maybe bumping the side and creating the noice. Pull the fridge off the wall and take the cover off the back of the fridge. Be careful, there's some voltage going through there. Locate the condenstae tray, shake it gently and see if it's loose. Give the compressor a gentle push and see if that makes the sound. Usually it's one of those two things and not an actual problem with the unit. When you touch the compressor, be careful, they can get pretty hot.

Cat number ED25TEXHW00, side by side, Whirlpool Refrigerator. Neither fridg or freezer will cool. Lights turn on & condens fan runs. Compressor will not kick in. What to look for???

If the compressor will not kick on what you have is either a bad compressor or a bad starting device. Generally the unit will try and start and after 8 seconds or so you will hear a loud tick. That indicates the relay is bad. If the compressor is bad it will usually make a loud humming noise.

The start device is plugged into the side of the compressor. Unplug the frig. You can simply take off the wires to the start device (remember where they go!!!!!) and pull it off. You have two piece, the overload and the relay. The relay is the piece that is most likely the problem. Some machines will have these put together in a white plastic block. You can shake this entire piece and if you hear loud rattling it is broken. Sometimes the relay is visibly burned and blacked where it plugs into the compressor. Anyway, if you do not have this white plastic relay/overload combo, the relay is a brown square shaped plastic piece. Shake it and see if you hear rattling. If not, chances are very good the relay is ok, and the compressor is locked up.

Compressor changes are expensive and unless the frig is extremely nice and cost a pretty penny, they aren't worth fixing. Relays and overloads should not break $100 for the parts, and any tech should be able to change one in under 10 minutes. So if it's a relay fix that puppy! good luck :D

more than likely you probably have a bad compressor foot mount . It is a rubber cushion between the compressor and the refrigerator base frame. they wear out, allowing the compressor foot to contact the mounting base which would be metal to metal contract.

there is a starter on the compressor that could be bad. Its a small box that plugs onto the side of the compressor. If you shake it and it rattles, its probably no good.

Loud thump from refrigerator when it shuts off???

If its a rattle, kind of a shake sound that ends in a phthump then its the compressor moving around after it has removed the heat from the unit. You may want new rubber mounts but I would leave it.

Comppresor stoped working

Go to the back of the machine and take the lower rear plate off. Taking this plate off will expose the compressor. Check to see the compressor is humming or is hot. If niether take off the relay (located on the side of the compressor) Shake it and if a loud rattling noise is heard replace it. If no rattling noise or the compressor is hot or humming then the compressor is bad.
