If you need to re-program the GP340's here is a link to some software on Ebay. You would need to buy a cable to connect the radio to the pc, but these cables can be found on Ebay also.

Can I reprogram my tk-2400 with my PC?

No. It is programmed from the Factory on a chip. Preprogrammed. No software will change it, no hacks. Many Motorola radios like that too. It is two watts, Vhf of Uhf, you did not say. If your existing frequencies are Business Band and in the same frequency band (Vhf or Uhf) you can get it to match those.

How do I know if my Motorola CP185 is UHF or VHF without taking it to a dealer for programming?

Hi christo,

Yes the serial No. usually indicates the frequency band the radio works on, but not always, because a lot of radios nowadays can operate on both VHF & UHF, so not being familiar with your model, I can't give you a definitive answer.

I do have the feeling, for what it's worth, that it is in fact a UHF band radio, but don't take that as gospel.

Anyone else reading this post is most welcome to assist in helping a friend out, we would much appreciate your input, thanks.

Hang in there my friend, there will be an answer soon.

Cheers, Peter

I'll look into it further as well....

Need a manual to program radio freq for a RCA four band veractor tuned scanner, this is not a gps but a radio scanner model # 16S400

Please excuse me if I've already answered your question -- it sounds familiar. The RCA 16S400 is a 70's-vintage crystal based scanner that covers the VHF-Low, VHF-High, and UHF bands using frequency-specific crystals. It is not programmable, but rather requires one crystal for each frequency to be scanned/tuned. It uses Regency-type crystals which can usually be found on eBay at reasonable prices.

How to reprogram two way radio, its a motorola gp 339 and its set to 5 channels from when i brought it, can i reset it or reprogram it to normal uhf channels?

In order to reprogram this Motorola GP339 you need to have a programming software, radio interface box and programming cable for this radio then you can read and change frequency in it. To reprogram to UHF channels this radio must be in UHF band. Good luck!

Can nice motorola GP340 talk to an FRS/GMRS w/ interference code?

If your GP340 is a UHF model, YES, you can have it programmed to match your TalkAbout radios. And yes, the GP340 has programmable privacy code capability.

If you do not know if your GP340 is VHF or UHF, you can tell by looking the model number, it will contain the following pattern: __H25RCC4AN3__. UHF models will have the letter R after the "25". VHF models will have the letter K.

When you have your GP340 programmed, the power setting will need to be turned down to the appropriate level to match the TalkAbout radios. Both for legal reasons, and also to protect your TalkAbout radios. You will not want the powerful GP340 to overpower the PA (power amp) in your TalkAbout radios.

Radios comparable?

First, select the radio frequency band which would best suit your needs. (ie: VHF, UHF or 900 MHz) If you are talking in and around concrete and brick you would want to select the UHF or 900 MHz.

Second, with your frequency band chosen, narrow down the field of radios which have the features you like. (ie. number of channels, amount of wattage, text messaging, or plain jane, etc.)

Third, compare apples-to-apples. If you decide a 1 channel, 4 watt UHF radio would suit your needs, compare all brands with this criteria.

Fourth, look at the MIL SPECs of the radios you've selected. This will tell you much about their durability. (Some of the low cost radios will show up as lacking in this area.) The MIL SPECs are available for every radio on their product literature, and most likely on the internet.

Fifth, look at the size and weight of the unit. A radio might look great on paper, until you find out it is the size of a brick.

Sixth, look at repairability. Once your radio is out of warranty, is it repairable, and at what cost.

Seventh, look at battery, antenna and belt clip replacement costs. In two years you will need to be replacing those rechargeable batteries.

Hopefully, this will get you started. If you have questions, repost here, or talk to a radio dealer or two. IMHO most schools use UHF 4 watt models, or the newer 900 MHz (license-free) digital radios with success.
