Question about Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor

E173FPc LCD Repair

This problem is different.

I went about replacing an inverterboard on the dell e173fpc. What I did, was bought the same model off of ebay that had screen bleeding, but the inverter worked great. So i wanted to take the screen out of the one with bleeding, and replace it wit the screen i already had (since the inverter was good)

So after i opened the new one up, the Pink/white wires are different. They aren't the same color pattern. When i plug everything in, the screen turns on, but will display lines and distortion(not the image of my PC).

Any ideas?

ok thanks. I actually did have trouble with the ribbon. I may have to end up getting a hold of a new one. I did try two different ribbons and both did the same thing, but I guess I could have screwed them both up. thanks.

got the problem fixed. It was the flat ribbon connection to the LCD. The metal brace bent, not allowing it to connect right. I actually carefull pulled off the metal brace, then fastened it in with small strips of tape.

The color of the wires doesn't matter. That's just insulation. If you are able to see the screen then your backlights are working, which is what the wires you refer to are powering. The distortion is either because your new board actually does have a problem, or because when you attached the ribbon cables, you didn't get them on quite right. Try removing and reseating them.

Dell e173fpc Display Issue

Check if the cable connected to your monitor and video card is fix and secure.. Check also if the video card is properly seated in the motherboard.... Try to check using other computer if the video card is working..

If the test is all ok.. then the last option will be to check the backlight inverter of your monitor....To do this, you need to bring the monitor to a credible technician to have it replace..

much appreciated if you could rate this help..thanks..

Moniter is only shows self test e173fpc

It sounds like your video card may be kaput. Can you try another monitor on it? If you use a monitor that you know works, and it does the same thing - then your video card has failed.

Alternately, you can try a different card and the same monitor.

Dell E173FPc 17" TFT when turned on goes black

Hi Gaz,

First, verify the monitor is functional.
Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check)
Turn off the monitor
Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
Turn on the monitor
The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background.
If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective. What are the results please?

That is a slightly different power supply board if it is the one I am thinking of.l It is similar in style but there is a 1000mf 16v capacitor that once you replace it it will work.

Dell E173FPc 17" LCD Monitor Problem:

Although similar, this monitor and the associated repair is different than the "b" version. The link above is good to follow for finding out how to open your case but the actual repair is different. If you have minor soldering skills (really the de-soldering is the hard part) and can use a phillips screw driver you can make this repair.

I contacted Tom at a link I found on the "b" site and he sent me the typical components to fail for the "c" monitor. $20 and $1.35 for shipping. The site looks to be down now so I'm not sure if this is temporary or he's stopped selling parts. He is also willing to fix the board if you send it to him. Here's what you need to do:
Replace C922 and C923 with 1000uF 35V caps
Replace c924 and C925 with 470uF 25V caps
Re-solder L201 and L202 with fresh solder.

I did all of the above and the monitor works perfectly. When you take the monitor apart make sure you note where the blue and pink wires go (you'll know what I mean when you get to that stage). The connectors are identical and it would be easy to forget which way they were installed.
