Starts fine, but will not continue to run. Looks like it is getting air in the gas line. It is just out of the box and has not been used. The gas and oil is just purchased also.

Yes. You just need to do a simple carburetor cleaning. Disassemble the carb. and spray with carb. cleaner. Make sure the small screen is in carb. is free of debris. Use a Den Tek Brush,(, to clean the small portals in the carb.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.

SOURCE: mower starts fine, however have to keep priming

You will need to check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks.

You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spraywith carb.cleaner. Use a Den Tek Brush, (, to clean the small portals and/or jet in carb. These portals can become blocked. you may need to replace the diaphragm. Reassemble and start.

(NOTE:If the carburetor parts are more than four years old, and depending onthe use, you will need a new carb. kit if the cleaning doesn't work.)

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

SOURCE: lawnmower starts but won't continue to run

if you are getting no fuel to the plug you either have a stuck float, plugged fuel line or filter. does the gas reach the carb bowl? does the mower have a fuel pump? if so the diaphram might be bad.

SOURCE: craftsman riding mower shuts off after approx 20 mins of use.

ran into this problem twice this season, about drove me crazy - finally traced the problem to the anti-backfire solenoid [the little cylinder at the bottom of the carburetor that holds the float bowl on] - after running fine for 20 minutes or so [it varied], the coil would release the plunger and shut off the gas flow. as soon as you turned off the key and turned it back on, it would start back up - replace the solenoid and problem vanished

'93 Volvo 960 wagon starts with a shot of ether and continues to run fine; however, will not start without ether (just cranks). Any ideas?

if diesel it is caused by low compression, rebuild it or live with it
if gas you may have a air leak, vaccum line open, or choke not operating

does it start easy after it is at operating temperature

It starts but will not continue to run. It needs

Too much air is getting into the cylinder. It probably involves a gasket and/or loose screws.

Check to make certain that the connection between the carburetor and engine is tight. A loose screw can allow air to infiltrate around the gasket and foul up the air/gas ratio.

I have a homelite xl12 chainsaw it starts and runs fine untill it gets warm about 5/10 mins of run time.....then it dies or if it stays running no high revs cuts in and out.... also if you take gas cap off...

The engine is running hot. A build up of chain lube/saw dust/dirt is likely blocking cooling air to the cylinder cooling fins (and gas line and carb) causing the fuel to boil (vapor lock)
Compressed air, played around openings in the shroud, will sometimes remove enough of the obstruction to help and is worth a try. Best solution is to split and remove the case/cover, after which, the engine and shroud can be throughly cleaned. Be sure to stuff a clean rag in the carburater throat to keep debris out.
