Question about EliteGroup ECS G31T-M Motherboard - Quad Core Support, Intel G31, Audio, Video, PCI Express, 10/100 Ethernet LA

DVD Drives not working

I have a G31T-M7 motherboard, duel core CPU, 1Gb RAM. 450W PSU
SATA HDD (250Gb).
SATA DVD-RW.
250Mb NVidea display card.
The problem is that the DVD drive worked for the first day, after that is still detects the DVD drive in the BIOS. the tray opens, but it does not read what's on the disk.
I then bought a normal IDE (LG) DVD-RW, this worked for 2 weeks and then had the same problem.
Then one day the SATA DVD drive worked again for about half a day.
I checked the jumper settings, removed the display and went back to the onboard display and removed the LG DVD drive, thinking the PSU can't handle it, but nothing seem to work.
Does anyone have any ideas for me besides chopping up the PC with an axe?

The motherboard is a ECS Elitegroup.

I got the BIOS update from the web site, updated the BIOS. The problem is still there. I have also changed the data as well as power cables, still the same problem. This should eliminate the PSU, I think, as the HDD works fine.

    Could the motherboard be faulty?

Or could it be a jumper setting somewhere on the motherboard?

I would check the bios to make sure that the settings are correct and that it detects the dvd drive and also check in device manager to see if it detects it.

Maybe try the dvd drive on another computer if it works fine without the issues then its a motherboard or power supply issue - what wattage is the power supply and does it have enough wattage to power all the devices on your computer ?

How much power do I need for this board?

Power Supply Calculator,

http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

A) System Type: 1 physical CPU (Processor)
B) Motherboard: High-end desktop (KN1 Extreme)
C) CPU Brand: AMD
4) CPU Socket: Socket 939

5) CPU: Lord only knows. I chose a Processor that uses Up To 89 Watts. AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2400MHz San Diego 1.35v

6) CPU Utilization TDP: 90% TDP (recommended)
(In otherwords leave alone)

7) Overclock my CPU!: Leave alone
8) RAM: 2 sticks of DDR SDRAM

9) Video Cards;
A) Video Brand: AMD (AMD owns ATI now)
B) Video Card 1: AMD Radeon HD5450
C) Video Card 2, 3, and 4: Leave alone
D) Video Type: Leave alone
E) Physics Processing Units: Leave alone

10) Hard Drives:
A) Regular SATA: 1 HDD

11) Go to Drives;
DVD-RW/DVD+RW Drive: 2 Drives

12) Go back up to the right; PCI Cards:
I left alone. Only you know at present, if you are using one, or more of these types of PCI cards.

13) Go to Fans;
80mm / Regular / 2 Fans. (Just guess-timating)

All fields should be entered now. If not make adjustments to what I didn't know. Include in the proper field.

Now go to the bottom right, and click on - Calculate
(Calculate / Reset / Print )

I come up with 265 Watts.

Want to know EXACTLY what hardware is used inside; without opening the computer case?
Use the tiny free program, CPU-Z from CPUID.com

(Can help you download, install, and use, CPU-Z if you need.
I have used CPU-Z for years)

Asrock P4V8+ freezes after ram checking

Unless you are using 2 identical hdd's RAID should be disabled. This may be where the problem is as it's looking for a RAID setup where none exists. Enable SATA but keep the RAID set to either IDE or disabled. Then try rebooting. Hope this helps.

Try going into the BIOS and selecting safe or minimal settings/options save and reboot. If this works go back to BIOS and make changes one at a time until it may not work again, then you will know which option is causing the system hang ups. My guess is also your motherboard is SATA 1 capable (1.5
gbs) not SATA 2, in which you could purchase a separate controlller card for your HDD. Good luck.

Recently built a PC Power is On with No Display

Well depending on your bios version, it could be an array of things.

First try removing the video card and re-seating it.

Then re-seat the RAM.

If the problem persists re-seat the CPU.

Let us know the exact model of your motherboard so we can better troubleshoot your problem.

When you turn on your computer the system does a POST (Power On Self Test). If the POST sees an eror it will tell the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) and the BIOS will beep a code or display a code that indicated the problem.

Different motherboards contain different BIOS versions. BIOSes use different beep codes for problems depending on the manufacturer.

Pc died

Hello, I have had similar problems with that same motherboard in the past and have found that resetting the cmos (see users manual) or just taking the battery of the motherboard for a few minutes can solve this. CAUTION please remove the power lead on your tower before touching any components inside, and earth yourself first by touching metal.. as static discharge kills pc components..
Hope this helps.....
