The left front burner will turn on for a few seconds then turn off then back on and off. It would not heat the pan on it. This is a glass top range. Are there any tests that I can do to find the problem?...

If the rest of the hotplate elements are working correctly and you are performing the same tests with all of them then you have a problem. We know that the hotplate works. When hotplates are faulty they don't turn on and off, they just don't work. This would generally be a hotplate controller problem. It sounds as if the controller is faulty and requires replacing. If you are handy you can switch the suspect hotplate controller with a good one and see what happens. This will confirm our suspicions.

Dual top burner will only heat up on high.It is only the large ring burner GE JBP79

Does it go straight to full heat even though it is on the low setting. If this is the case the hotplate controller is faulty and requires replacement.

I have a neff T1.D20 dual circuit hotplate but although the inner lights up and gets hot the outer part doesnt. Is the outer part supposed to?

I have a T172 model which also has a dual circuit hotplate.

In the control area you should find a dual circuit control pad - this has two concentric circles on it. With the hob switched on, pressing this button will chnage the mode of the dual circuit hot plate bewteen:
1. Just the inner part
2. Both the inner and outer together.

When the hob is switched off using the Standby control pad, it remembers which mode was selected and will therefore work the same next time it is switched on. However, it is worth noteing that when the mains power to the hob is interuppted, either by an isolator switch/breaker, or a power cut, the hob defaults back to just the inner ring mode.

The hot plate is heating up when the selector is in off position

Hotplate heating up when regulator/selector switched off. Hi ,this is gil1714 in Scotland. Two possibilities on this one, 1) the regulator is faulty:- replace
2) if the control circuit (regulator) is wired on the neutral side the hotplate may be leaking current to
earth, thereby completing the circuit. This would only occur on a supply that was not protected by
an RCD. If so replace hotplate. Hope this is useful,

I have a oven/ceramic cooktop that is just over 3 years old. About 1 1/2 years ago, one of the hotplates stopped regulating temps, if it was 'on' it was 'high'. Since then, one by one, all four have...

I need more information. What kind of controls? A knob you turn or computer touch controls? If it is a knob it is most likely the switch is bad. THese cost around $25 each. The control switch controls the heat by pulsing the element on and off . High is constantly on, lowest setting is around 5% on. This is usually an easy repair. THe switches have 4 - 6 wires. 2 marked L 1 and L2 (Usually black and Red) Two terminals marked Load 1 and Load 1 , Maybe a neutral and a pilot light terminal. Do not mix up the L1 and L2. The load terminals (going to burners) really don't matter. They may even be the same color. THe L1 & L2 terminals must be the same on all 4 switches. The switch you get as a replacement may look different from the original. As long as you ordered by model and serial # they will fit.
