Disc Not reading

When I insert a disc into my machine and close the tray my recorder beeps 5 times then goes into read mode on screen before beeping 5 more times. After this appears a message on the tv screen "cannot read please check the disc" then on the machines window comes A4 withthe small disc symbol indicating ready to play/record.When play/record button is pushed it begins over again.Machine is approx.12 months old and has performed flawless until now. Thanks. Merrybuss

    Same problem.

  • Gareth Walker Jan 25, 2008

Very similar problem here as well also without the A4 just says NoREAD.
It started as crashing during recording then refused ram disc now won't even take pre-recorded discs...... Think the laser has gone down I also have an older machine that is starting to do the same... Think it may be a weakness.

If the player skips, make sure that the DVD disc is not dirty or scratched..Use the cleaner disk buy it from R. Shack.
If the tray won't open or close properly, check the belt for dirt or wear. Then check the tray for misalignment. If needed, remove, clean, lubricate, and reinstall the tray following the instructions in the owner's manual.

After inserting a disc the dvd goes into the machine, the menue box on the tv screen changes to loading, stays on loading for a short time then pushes the dvd back out. The machine never changes to play.

the dvd player is unable to read the disc. either the disc is scratched and cannot be read or the player needs cleaning. cleaning discs are available pretty much anywhere. sometimes simply blowing into the area when the tray is open can temporarily fix the problem.

Blank screen, not reading dsc

try rebuilding the database and the file system in recovery consol

to get to the recovery consol press and hold the power button when ps3 is in standby mode(red light) till you hear a double beep. sometimes the ps3 does a beep then another beep and goes back into standby thsi is fine just release the power and quikly press and hold it again till you get double beep.

like on my 80g system it goes like this

ps3 hold power.......beep .........beep........stanby again....release and hold power again.......beep .........double beep...release power now you should be in recovery menu.

I can't record with my DVD player on 1x-16x DVDs

This unit is too old and too basic to handle 16x speed. However, there is a firmware update for this model DVD/VCR to record on 8x.

All you have to do is call the toll-free number in your manual and request it. They will send you an update disc.

Here is the basic procedure after you receive the update disc:

1. Turn on your TV and your combo unit. The tray should be closed. The unit must be in DVD mode.

2. Quickly press the sequence CM Skip, 6, 5, 4 (This will switch it into firmware update mode. The tray will eject automatically.)

3. Insert the disc and push the tray back in.

4. The update will begin. It will take approx. 2-3 minutes. It will tell you when it is complete and eject the tray.

5. When it is done, remove the disc, but DO NOT close the tray. It will go back in later. Turn the power off.

6. Wait a few minutes and when the tray goes back in wait about another 10 seconds and then you may turn the unit back on.

Firmware update procedure is now completed.
