Paper Jams (xylophone effect)

Minolta Magicolor 2200. Paper folds up right before drum. It comes out of the paper tray then gets shoved into the drum right before it is about to put the toner on the page.

This problem is caused by a poor glue compound used on a solonoid assembly (SL3) in the back of the printer. Although difficult to get to, it is easy to fix.

Remove the back panel. Now remove the power board (PWB-A) - that's the lower-left board with the over-abundance of connections. At the top of the newly exposed area will be a solonoid assembly (SL3) - a small, black, round device connected by two wires and mounted to a brass-colored bracket. This assembly is mounted by one screw. Remove the screw and the solonoid assembly. Now that you have the solenoid assembly out, the repair should be a snap.

Notice on the assembly will be a brass lever held in place by a spring. At the tip of the lever that rests against the brass bracket, you should be able to see a tiny black pad when you push down on the other end of the lever. The glue that holds the black pad in place is the problem. The pad is likely part-way to most of the way out of position. Lining the pad back up with the tips of both brass pieces and supergluing it will do the trick. Just make sure to not superglue the brass pieces together and to let the superglue cure before putting it back together.

As to exactly why this repair procedure works, I'm unsure. I can only speculate that the lever must rest too far from the solonoid and be failing to stop the gear that feeds the paper. Or in my case, with only one or two folds in the paper, it must have been functioning too slowly.

Paper jam too often

Here is some tips to avoid paper jam..

  • If your printer has a paper tray do not fill the tray to capacity. If you're encountering frequent paper jams, reduce the amount of paper you place in the tray each time it is filled.
  • Make sure you or the tray feeding the paper into the printer is aligned properly and the slider used to hold the paper in place in the tray is snug with the paper. Many printers have sliders that allow different types and sizes of paper to be fed into the printer. If the slider is not properly positioned it can cause paper jams.
  • Use standard office paper; folded paper, paper with labels, and specialty paper such as hard bound paper can often cause paper jams. If you're uncertain with what paper you should use with your printer your printer documentation will list the paper compatible with your printer.
  • Do not mix the paper you're feeding into the printer at one time. If you need to change the paper or size of paper being used removed any other paper currently in the printer before inserting the new paper.
  • If your printer uses a slot or tray for the paper make sure to not push the paper too far into the slot or tray.
  • Examine the printer for any previous stuck paper in the printer. Previous paper jams, torn paper, printing labels or other foreign objects in the printer can cause reoccurring printer jams.

We cannot print a several page document, it keeps getting jammed. The printed copies come out folded.

Check the fusing unit (The Hot Part) also check the drum/Image units and also the paper guides in the draw rollers clean that pick up the paper. something is hitting the paper as it moves thur the machine.

My magicolor 2200 keeps asking me to put paper in the mpt (multi purpose tray) when I'm printing form the bottom tray. The resulting print comes out slightly smeared and starts part way down the page. ...

ok seems like 1 of 2 things,,, firstly check your print settings and ensure your selecting the correct try to print from..

turn off machine

might be a stuck sensor, turn off machine look at where u load the paper, close to where the printer pulls it up, there is a small leaf swith there that tell the printer if it has or dont have paper, play ith the switch a bit.. Then turn back on and try again.

Minolta magicolor 2200 registration is shifting

There is a solinoid on the right side that will cause this to happen. I placed a spacer in mind a resolved the issue. Not an ease fix as you need to put the machine way down but it's a cheap do it your self job.

Paper jams when folding 8 1/2 X 11 ivory paper; less often with white. Tech says it's a paper issue - so whose colored paper (brand) will work - or is it a design flaw?

Is this paper the same weight/thickness as the white paper?
Are you specifying the settings properly as far as the weight and type?
It sounds like the sensors are detecting a double feed(?)
Try different settings for the tray, and even try a different brand of stock to verify.
