Try another computer, likely if it was plugged in though and was not protected with a surge protector its gone. Their are expensive services that might be able to retrieve it though, but that could cost hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Without being physically at the pc it's still going to very hard to diagnose it, try to find a family friend or someone who is well versed with computers to have a look. Or you might try a local repair shop.

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Sometimes the embedded USB controller on those drives die. When this happens there usually is not a way to get at your data. Your best chance at this point is if the drive uses an external USB to SATA interface inside the case. If it's not external (as in, USB goes directly into the hard disk itself) then you would need to send your drive to drive savers or someplace like that to have your data recovered. My suggestion is to take apart the case and see if it has a removable USB to SATA interface (a small, removable adapter card) attached to the end of the drive. If it does, then your chances of getting at your data increase significantly. Give it a shot and report back what you find. See the link for examples of what I'm talking about (not my site) Your dead external hard drive is likely fine Great hope for your faulty...

How do I backup files to my Freecom external hard drive XS 3.5 ?? Ive installed it but cannot workout how to use it !! there are no manuals !!

you can open Computer on your screen and then there is C: drive and Freecom labeled to it. Open first the C drive, click Ctrl + A to highlight everything. Then click Ctrl + C. Then go back to Computer and click Freecom. Then click Ctrl + V. All the files will be transferred to Freecom. Then you may proceed for your next step. That is how you back up files.

It should automatically allocate a drive letter to it. Go to windows explorer and hit F5 to refresh the display and you should see a new drive letter with the name of FREECOM next to it.

the easiest option is to fragment your hard drive and try to add it on a different computer to check if it has any errors incurring on it. run disk check utility. if that does not work too, better consult the outlet you bought it from and ask for a warantee if it still has.

get back to me if that did not work and we could try to find other alternatives.

thank you

INdex.dat causing bail-out of HDD Back-up

Index.dat is not required, simply do not include it in your backup..windows will recreate the file automatically. It is created by the file indexing service for faster searches, etc.
