Start removing the fascia that is the silver plastic panel on top,try not to damage it, but if this happens the part is not very expensive to replace. To do this pry trim panel from the dash releasing all clips with pressure.
Remove the two screws located below the car stereo. This are securing the unit to the dash.
Remove the car stereo module from the dash.
Disconnect antenna and release triggers connectors to disconnect.
Follow procedure in reverse order to refit new stereo.

Here also an interesting thread with few hints on wiring problems on 2005 Mariner.

Here connectors, wiring harness, spares and all parts eventually needed.

How do I get the radio to release to take it out of the dash on a 2006 Mercury Mariner?

After you take the faceplate off, you will see a hole at each corner of the radio. Use a small thin screwdriver or similar object to push in these holes and release the clips. Then pull radio straight out.

My battery on my 2007 mariner died when i replaced it my cd keeps saying theres a load error. then its says its empty which is not, cant get cds out. Is there a code to reset cd player?

yes, the code should be among the documentation you received when buying the car. Check the owners manual front pages and the jacket holding the manual for a flyer/instruction for the radio. Otherwise contact your dealer ,as they may have a record of codes by VIN of the vehicle.
