Re: computer monitor

Yes, but you will have to get a special adapter that can hook into th eback of your TV and your computer tower. I suggest bringing the cable from your tower to your monitor to a electronics store.

Why will my computer not work through tv

Heidi we need a little more information but I'll give a little background here for you so we know what you're trying to do with your TV.

First TVs don't run computer programs so running a computer game on your TV only works if you have a device like a Play Station system to "run" the software. Many TVs these days can be used as Computer monitors but the TV has to be compatible for his usage and have the right ports for instance to connect your laptop/computer to the monitor.

In either case, the TV only acts like a monitor so your computer programs won't run on a TV.

If you have an older TV, there may an interface you can buy that will let your older TV act like a monitor for your computer. You'd have to look up your model TV and see if there is such an interface for it.

Hope that helps.

Trying to connect computer to LCD TV and get no signal?

If you are trying to connect computer to LCD TV and get no signal, as a first thing do the following:

Double check cable and connection. If possible test different connections. Try using VGA, DVI or AV, depending on availability on computer and TV.

Ensure that Video drivers on computer are properly installed, and that the video adapter is working properly.

If you are using a laptop, ensure that you do not need to use a function button to enable the external display, this is pretty common on laptops.

If you are using a desktop, go to display properties, find the windows where you get the picture of two monitors, and ensure that both monitors are enabled.

On Vista try also using the 'Identify Monitor' button on Top. It is located on same properties panel as the two monitor, the main Display Property windows. From the same window you can also modify display resolution, as explained later.

If still no luck, then it may be a problem of synchronization between TV and computer, in that case try the following.

  1. Turn off TV.
  2. Disconnect TV power cord.
  3. Restart computer.
  4. With Computer already on, plug back and restart TV.

....If that does not work.

On computer, go to display properties.

First try changing computer resolution. The TV max resolution may not be available on computer. In that case try lowering down to the smallest 16:9 resolution available on computer graphic settings (usually LCD TVs are 16:9), and if that does not work, set resolution to 800x600, just to test (picture proportion will be distorted, or you get squared box on a 16:9 TV).

If that does not work, open Display Properties. In Display Properties access Advanced, and then Monitor settings (XP). On Vista choose Personalize in control panel, then Display Settings, and go straight to Monitor Settings, in there again go to Advanced.

Under the advanced monitor settings you will find a tab called monitor, in there you find the monitor frequency. Try setting this to 50Hz, if that does not work try 100 HZ, that is the output frequency of your TV. If you get unsupported frequency, revert value to normal.

A lot will depend on what computer you have. If your computer has got an HDMI output then you can connect this port to the HDMI input of the TV using an HDMI cable. Then in windows control panel of computer you select Display properties and select the monitor port.

To convert a LCD Monitor into a TV

Compare internal and external TV tuners that are designed for use with computers. See if the tuner supports HD, DVI, component video, S-video, stereo, surround sound or other features you might like to use. Ensure that any internal devices will work with the expansion slots in your computer.

    • 2

Purchase a regular TV tuner if your monitor has S-video, coaxial or RCA inputs. These can be seen at the back of the monitor. S-video should be clearly marked; coaxial is a large round port, and RCA inputs are typically smaller and brightly colored. If your monitor does not have these inputs, purchase a special TV tuner designed just for computer monitors. If you would like to use the tuner with your computer and monitor, choose an internal TV tuner. If you're using your computer monitor as a television on its own, select a stand-alone external tuner. Install the internal TV in your computer, if applicable.

    • 3

Connect the TV tuner to the monitor with the proper cable. Select S-video as the connection option if both your tuner and monitor support it. Choose RCA component video as your next option. Use coaxial only if your monitor and tuner do not have the aforementioned connections. If your monitor has none of these connections, use a standard VGA cable to connect the tuner and monitor.

    • 4

Connect the tuner's audio outputs to your monitor's speakers. If your monitor has no speakers directly attached, connect external speakers to the TV tuner. This can usually be achieved using regular audio or RCA cable.

    • 5

Install an HD antenna high on a wall if you will be picking up free over-the-air television signals with your monitor. If you will be using satellite or cable TV with your monitor, simply plug the satellite or cable set top box into the tuner using RCA or coaxial cables. Then connect the tuner directly to the monitor.

    • 6

Set your tuner to the channel you use to pick up television stations. If you receive free over-the-air television, this channel will be 3 or 4. If you have satellite or cable TV, this station is determined by your television service provider. Check the documentation that came with your system to determine which channel to set the tuner on. You will probably need to change channels using the satellite or cable box rather than the TV tuner.

I want to hook up my computer to my tv. Is there a plug.

Check your tv for a blue DB15 port. That would a direct connection for your computer. All you need is the monitor connectio cord from your monitor. If you monitor is hard wired you can buy monitor cables at local electronic stores for about 10 dollars.
