Question about EliteGroup ECS 848P-A Supports Intel Pentium 4 Processor (ECS848PAV10) Motherboard

1 Answer

ECS 848p-a ver 1.0 memory problem. I decided to upgrade my kid's desktop and started with a 1gig pc3200 kingston memory module (KVR400X64C3A/1G, 184 pin DIMM) to replace the pc2100 stick it had before. I can only read half of the stick when installed. Have searched in bios for another setting that is memory related, but can only find the option for 266mhz,333mhz,400mhz and auto settings. What am I missing?

I need to upgrade as my comp is runing slow

This motherboard is extremely old - most of the parts that would fit in it are also low performance. You could add some memory
http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-ValueRAM-Desktop-KVR400X64C3A-1G/dp/B0000V1A8A
a better video card
http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Radeon-4650-Graphics-HD465XZDF2/dp/B001QF99P0/ref=sr_1_15?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1303740492&sr=1-15
and a bigger hard disk
http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Caviar-Desktop-WD3200AAJB/dp/B000RO3BPA/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1303740570&sr=1-5
But in the end you will still have an old pc. Better cut your losses and buy a new one.

You're board can handel; DDR SDRAM up to 200 or 266MHz DDR SDRAM memory module. Accommodates two "unbuffered", 2.5V 184-pin slots. Each slot supports up to 1 GB with a total maximum capacity of 2 GB. Return the Kingston memory you have installed if it is less than a year old. They should allow you to trade up to the MB's supported memory.
Two reach the MB's max memmory of 2GB. Buy two Kingston DIMMS of, "unbuffered", 2.5V 184-pin
DIMMs. Here is one site that sells Kingston memory;

The memory may not be compatible depending on the speed. Try taking out all the memory and just installing the 1Gig stick.. does it work?

If it does then the 1Gig stick is fine, but your PC probably doesn't like you mixing different types and speeds of memory.

If it doesn't work, the 1gig memory module might not be the correct speed your PC wants.
