Hi. Problem with Dell Inspiron 1501 Model No PP23LA. I blundered into using the Operating reinstallation dvd & ended up deleting all partitions & installing XP media centre edition all over again,...

NO....
disk supplied by Dell will only help you restore in an emergency....that too if your system is enabled the restore option...before your blunder....
i suggest you re-do the full PC as per my adivse....

first u must make a backup of your critical data if u have any on ur pc on DVD disks....DONT use pendrive...
since ur laptop is in working condition u can do the following in this laptop itself....else u may have to use another PC....
1st go to my shared drive (link below) and download this application....
http://www.4shared.com/file/gTU7Zdj3/boot-cd-iso.html

this is a rar file, unzip this file with winrar....the folder that winzip will create will have a self burn software called "ISO-Burner"

insert a blank CD in the drive (i guess ur laptop has a CD/DVD writer) else u will need another PC to write a CD....

click on the ISO-Burner, it's a self create burn application...it will create a bootable CD with the needed applications....

to wipe ur disk....clean...

.... u must ensure that the CD drive is the 1st boot drive in BIOS ( i guess u know how to do it)
keep the boot cd in the CD drive...switch off and switch on again...and let it boot from the CD....wait...wait...
it will boot and load an application that will have some tools to make the disk factory fit....
select application KILLDISK...on the left panel...select F10 to wipe your disk clean....type in ..."erase-my-data"....and wait...wait...
the process will take aprox 5 hrs for a 100 gb disk....wait and have patience....so if you HD is 200 gb it will be more than 11 hrs to finish....
once done you can replace the cd with the WinXP disk, make partitions, format and create different drives as per you needs and make you machine as good as new...
for more info on how to format and use WinXP pls visit my site
www.sureshayyar.110mb.com

pls revert back and leave a feedback and rating for the solution....it will help me become a "Guru" here on Fixya....
all the best
regards....

system files are corrupt....re-format and install OS....
i your are using WinXP my website can be of some help...
www.sureshayyar.110mb.com
also do this...if ur data in the PC is not critical and u dont mind loosing them..
do a low level format...
http://www.4shared.com/file/gTU7Zdj3/boot-cd-iso.html
get this application from my shared drive and burn a CD...on another machine.....in this laptop ensure boot seq is set to CDrom as 1st boot drive in BIOS...insert the CD in the laptop....with the software u downloaded....power off and power on again....let it boot from the CD... let the DOS application start....use an application called KILLDISK on the left side of the DOS application that comes up...follow onscreen inst....ur disk will be as god as new....have patience...a 20 GB disk will take aprox 1 hr to become clean....a 100 GB disk will take more than 5 hrs...u can then install Windows after formating and partition...
all the best

Record Now Used Up All Hard Drive Space I have no more space on my hard drive how can i get rid of these temp files I have try this C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sonic\RecordNow! but...

Do you not know the admin password to your OS?  That's a problem when your apps leave 8GB staging files around in their application files.
What's the problem with deleting the larger files in the directory you mentioned?   They all should be project files (hopefully some committed to disc successfully?  And no longer of use?)

Temp files are a common issue.  You can go into the settings for that application (RecordNow! Dlx.) and tell it not to keep all those files!  You can run a temp file cleanup utility for WinXP or Vista or Win7 or whatever....

WINXP-_CRASH

I wonder if you ever pay attention to what you're doing; if you install a Linux Distribution, it's going to have a non-NTFS boot sector, and moving Windows' original boot sectors around is not guaranteed to work well.

If you pay attention to what you're doing, you should be installing Linux on a fresh disk using a good filesystem like ext3 or ext4 or Sun's filesystem. If you want to run WinXP rather than run applications (games, etc.) under WINE or a VM, you can use Disk Commander or such to boot to the old drive and mask the OS from each others' existence. Likewise you could install, run, etc. Fedora, Ubuntu, etc. from within a VM in WinXP; or install, run, etc. WinXP within a VM in a Linux. If you don't pay attention to what your install means for the system operation, you're going to get surprised.

Uninstall any and all "Norton" application from your computer using the "Norton uninstaller". Then reinstall the network adapter drivers.
The norton firewall causes a HUGE LOT of problems to the network adapters.
Get another security solution, other than any "norton" product.

SOFTWARE 4 HP PACKAARO SCANJET ADF

If you are using WinXP or Vista, the drivers for the device are part of the driver packages included with the operating system. As far as software to operate the scanner, MS Office products include the capability to use an attached scanner to scan documents and images as well as a Document Imaging Tool and a Document Scanning Tool.. Many other packages also offer the same type of functionality. Going directly to the HP site (www.hp.com) and selecting the Support and Drivers tab, selecting the 'download drivers and software' button and entering 'scanjet' and the specific model number of your device can give you any software that they still have available for your product. They have a long list of scanners that they provide DeskScan and Copy software for WinXP/Win2K, etc. The newer ones also have updated drivers and software for Vista users.

You may need to get the new WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) drivers. When you connect a digital camera to any laptop that runs WinXP, the OSmay not recognize the camera. If you download and install new drivers from the Web site, you receive the following error message when WinXP tries to detect the camera: "Windows image acquisition service error system cannot find file specified ‘imaging'." To fix this problem, you must first remove all current related camera drivers and reinstall the updated drivers.
