Question about Garden

1990 20hp Sunstar Rear PTO cuts out during rototilling operations, if I turn off switch and turn back on it will work for a little bit but then cuts out again. I recently replaced my engine with a 24hp Honda from Small Engine Warehouse.com Problem started after the engine change. Is this a PTO problem or some kind of wiring issue with the new engine??? Thanks

This tractor has two PTO's, one runs off engine, and second (rear) runs off Hydrostatic drive. This wasn't tuched during engine replacement. This is the problem clutch. When engine is cold rear PTO will run for a while, but once engine has warmed up the problem begins.???

1990 Simplicity Sun Star, replaced 20hp Kohler Magnum with new 24hp Honda from Small Engine Warehouse supply.com and it was supposed to be bolt and go but now both my Front and Rear PTO's work intermittently mostly not at all. Now I can't even cut my grass!!!! The clearance between plates are good on both PTO's I think it's got to do with electrical, but don't know where to start looking.

    Thanks for any help

Did you install the original electric clutch from the old engine?

If so, you may not have the adjustment right. On most electric clutches, there is a specific distance between the drive plate and the driven plate. Check your shop manual (if you have one) for this, as it does vary between manufacturers, and depending on the size of clutch.

Ok, Same thing applies to that clutch. As the clutch engages, it slips a little, wearing the plates. You should be able to adjust the driven plat in a bit closer. I would bet that the added HP from the new engine is the reason that the problem showed up now. Chances are high that it has been out of adjustment for a while.

The added HP would cause some minor slippage, heating the clutch plates to the point of loosing grip, then when they cool a bit, they work until hot again. If adjustment doesn't work, you will probably need to replace it.

John Deere eztrak mower went over a rock today and now the mower won't engage

hmm strange are the belts driving the blades ok if so then the PTO could be damaged but if there's no sign of damage it maybe a bit frozen up/locked up have the engien off but turn the key on and engage the PTO switch and manually turn the PTO (not by the blades please....dont want to have your hand taken off) turn by the PTO itself and if you hear any clicking sound disengage the PTO and engage a few times to ensure your hearing the clicking sound of the PTO turning on and off and it should be back to normal also check any connections going to the PTO before doing the manual work of repairing the PTO

try replacing the battery most with an electric clutch PTO have to have a really strong battery as the alternator system is not strong enough by itself

Were is the safety switch for the pto on craftsman riding lawn mower

well there's three, there's the seat switch which can be found under the seat of course, there's the reverse switch which will not let you cut in reverse (just unplug it to be able to cut in reverse it you wanted but be careful of the little ones) which is usually near the gear shifter and then there's the break switch located under the mower (look along the break arm just follow the break under the mower and then you'll see a bracket that's flat and when the breaks pushed down the flat piece hit the button switch... why are you concerned? did it stop working here's a tip that most shops wont tell you just replace the main pto button first its cheap and 60% of the time its the main cause of the pto not working, but they wont hesitate to tell you that you need a 400.00 or so new pto. hope this helps

When we engage the pto switch, on our Ford YT16 42" cut, the mower deck does not operate. Is this a pto switch issue, clutch issue, or something else? How do we fix it?

Could be the switch. This model may also have a relay I'm not sure because of the age. There is also a seat switch that has to be made for the PTO to work. I f you have a 12V tester, with tractor off, disconnect wire from the PTO. Start motor, have an assistant sit on seat and turn on PTO test wire for voltage. If none present, then trace wire back, to either the switch or relay. There also should be a fuse in the circuit. By the way these were cool tractors.

You have several safety switches on your unit. The engine should not start if the PTO safety interlock is engaged. Be sure PTO switch is off.
If the sarter Does Not Work Or Will Not Turn Engine Brake pedal is not depressed.
or the PTO is engaged.
Battery terminals are corroded. or Fusible Link in starting circuit is blown - (Not likely unless bad wires) Here is a link to your wiring diagram (maybe your model)

http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1tOfiS
Notice how the starting circuit goes through the brake pedal (must be depressed) and the PTO switch (must be disengaged) and that the PTO only works with operator present. Print that page while link still works.

Hi...I have a 2005 Cub Cadet 2042. With the switch in ''normal'' and the PTO engaged, when going forward cutting the grass the PTO will disengage for no apparent reason. You have to push the PTO knob in...

In the cub cadet, the PTO power is maintained via a latching circuit that includes a reverse switch and a reverse relay. Locate the reverse switch that senses whether the tractor is in reverse -- either it's come loose, become misadjusted, or it's failed, or the wiring and connections are loose. You could bypass the switch to confirm this as the problem.

Simplicity sunstar 20hp rear pto won't engage deck when you flip the switch, it used to work for a while and I could play with it and it would work but now nothing, any suggestions.

your electric clutch may need adjustment. Take the hood off. Look behind the double pulley that's on the crank shaft. Behind the pulley is an electric clutch. You will need a .010-.015 feeler gage and check between the clutch plates. You will tighten the three screws that mount the clutch to the motor. Try and get as close to .010" as you can. After adjustment start the motor and try and engage the pto. I bet it will work.

Good luck

Cub cadet Z Force 48 inch zero turn blades won't engage

I hope this will help you...under the side panels on each side of the mower, there are "reverse lockout safety switches", they are supposed to stop the blades when both handles are pulled back. If one or both of the switches are out, the deck will not engage. Also, under the right side panel (when sitting on seat) there should be 3 relay switches, the one closest to the motor controls the PTO., if this is out, the PTO will not engage.
