I have an IPAQ 1940 that was working fine with my home and work computers. Just last week, both PC's no longer recognize my PocketPC. I've deleted and reinstalled the program on both PC's; however, nothing helps. I am still able to use the cable to recharge the battery, but activesync does not work. Do you have any suggestions? Its a ActiveSync that you have on your CD (bundled with u'r own IpaQ) that I think it's suite best, because I've once installed ActiveSync v4.3 (upgrading..), device connection is intermittent, and some syncronizing process fails.
Verify computer recognizes the new connection. Updating Activesync will not solve problem, however, being that it is 18 months ago when you last used it, it is possible an applicatioon on you computer is affecting Activesync.
The factory-stock 1940, which uses Windows Mobile 2003, doesn't offer landscape mode.
You can get a 3rd party program called Nyditot Virtual Display that will let you use the 1940 in landscape mode, but I've used it before, and although it works, the problems it creates are not worth it. Besides, that program's not free.
Adobe offers a pdf reader for free that let's you read pdf files in landscape mode.
Check the setting on the ipaq, go to ActiveSync and tools, options, server and make sure calendar, contacts and inbox are not selected here. Then, put the pda in its cradle and let it do a sync, it should change the settings on the desktop and the (sync status on device) should disappear. I had a similar problem and after de-selecting these, everything worked fine.
I had the same problem. Contacted HP customer service chat, and got the following answer that
solved the problem:
1. Remove the battery for 30 minutes. 2. Insert it again in the iPAQ. 3. Perform a clean reset on the iPAQ and at the same time charge the iPAQ.
To perform a clean reset please follow these steps:
Press and hold the Calendar button, the Power button, and the Messaging button.
While holding these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on the bottom of the HP iPAQ.
The problem can also be solved by getting a new battery, and performing the clean reset while charging (using the portable charger, not the cradle).
If you tried it on two different desktops and you tried it after a hard reset, I would say that you have narrowed it down to a hardware problem.
When you tried it on the two PCs did you use the same cable to connect it? If yes you might want to try a different cable or if possible you can you try a bluetooth sync?
If a different cable or bluetooth doesn't work you probably need to have the device repaired.
If an ipaq loses power , then all data in RAM is lost. It's important to keep it charged.
It's also important to do regular backups.....
so there are two backup options - one is thru Activesync which will backup to your PC and one is the IPAQ's own backup program which will backup to the IPAQ FILE STORE (area in ROM) or a SD card.
I do the Activesync backup every time I sync and then the IPAQ backup about once a week or immediately before a system change.

this guide suggests doing a full backup, but it's fine to do an incremental backup each sync - this means that only changes will be added to your backup and makes the whole process much quicker.
So under Programs is a program called IPAQ Backup. The default location is IPAQ FILE STORE which is an area in ROM and is not lost thru a power failure nor hard reset.
You may also choos to backup to a SD card - a full backup will need roughly 20MB. So in this backup procedure, if you click on 'Browse' you can choose a SD card.
A restore can then be performed from the IPAQ FILE STORE or SD card (depending on which location you chose) and so if you are away from your PC, this will be no problem. A restore this way , rather than thru Activesync is also much quicker, so if you have a choice go this route.
I have bluetooth Activesync working on my hw6515 connected to a Dell x300. Followed the instructions in the User Guide Chapter 9. Need to take note of the com port assigned to bluetooth serial port on the PC.
Connection must be initiated each time from the IPAQ ie go to buetooth manager and connect the activesync shortcut.
