Keep in mind that the c1u number is the series of the carb. Each carb has another number that is referenced for the actual carb settings as far as how far out and in you turn the screws as well as the idles RPM. George

My 'painful' experience of a Zama C1M carburetor on my Stihl SH86 leaf blower is the fact that the fuel filter in the tank is far too efficient. It looks like a normal nylon gauze filter but there is another "felt" filter inside; this second filter is easily blocked (even by too much oil in the fuel mix) causing weak running and poor starting. My advice is to remove this second filter!!
Before I found the root of my problem - I took the airline to the carb - DON'T!!! The white flange under the fuel primer bubble contains a minute fuel non-return valve and the airline completely destroyed the fuel pick-up. This is Stihl Part No 4241 120 2200 and it cost me £24.
All OK now....but thanks for running these 'HELP' web sites. **** H

Carburetor adjustment zama walbro tuneup

Too long to print here. Go to the zama web sit and they give you a wonderful procedure for adjusting a zama carburetor. Especially important after you have taken it apart and installed a new carb kit. And even if you get a new carb the initial settings are so called defaults and you should really fine tune the carb for your specific motor.

Stihl trimmer must use choke for full throttle

Sounds like a tuning issue and carb problem. Before you go spending money on carbs or carb kits and start stripping down the carb, try this first.
*Unscew both H and L tuning screws ( not all the way out but back them off)
*Pull over until the engine fires up, it should run for a second and cut out.
*Screw both the H & L all the way back in.
*Then reset the carb to standard settings.
*Unscrew the H tuning screw 3/4 of a full turn.
*Unscrew the L tuning screw 1 full turn.

This should be the standard settings.

Start saw as normal and see if its any better. Failing that your probably looking at cleaning the carb or replacing diaphrams.

ZAMA CARBURETOR REBUILD

Unless you really know what you're doing i wouldn't advice it be carried out by a novice. Carbs contain small one way valves that can get damaged. Avoid using airlines to clean and blow out carbs as these can damage the valves. Diaohrams, gaskets and needles are pretty straight forward tho.

I have an antique stihl weedeater that will not stay running I've cleaned the carb.,the carb sceens and replaced the primer bulb I'm not 100% sure about the scew settings.

You probably know that it may need a rebuild kit with the new gaskets and diaphragms in it. It is quite possible a kit exists for it even though it is antique. Is it a Walbro or a Zama? I will send you to a tutorial by Zama on tuning a 2 stroke carb which includes your mixture screw settings. If you need help finding a rebuild kit or just a gasket w/diaphragms kit, please post back. I will be glad to assist.

Brand new royobi strimmer RLT30CET will not start very easily , even foll owing manufactoure instructions. could anybody explain why? Dave F

The manufacturer's of the cheaper "big BOX stores" trimmer carburetors are made in foreign lands, with adjustments basically set to their liking. Ryobis use ZAMA and RUEIING carburetors. Mexico and China are just 2 of the foreign places they are made. Unfortunately, the factory settings don't always work well in the locale the machine is sold in.This is POSSIBLY one of your problems.Higher end trimmer manufacturers set up their machines (eg. Stihl, Echo, Kawasaki, Husqvarna) prior to selling them. The carbs get adjusted for the local climate.Elevation effects carb function a good deal. A standard diaphragm carb is dependent upon the atmospheric pressure to work. Try to check if the carb is adjusted properly, first. Here is a tutorial.

Instruction on how to rebuild Stihl FS85 carburetor

The FS 85 was produced in HUGE quantities over a number of years. Several different carbs were used during production and Stihl has several proprietary carbs in use. You will need a Rebuild Kit (NOT just a Diaphragm Kit) for this particular carb. On the carb body you should see a Series and a Model identification.
Example: If this is a ZAMA carburetor, the C1U-S66 might have been used on your trimmer.
Get that info off the carb body and ...
For ZAMA carb lookups click HERE.
For WALBRO carbs click HERE.

Hope this helps.

Still hs45 zama car ch1 just put rebuild kit in won't idle, runs at high rpm fine.

you have a great piece of equipment however the carb that stihl used is a very touchy carb even for a certified tech like myself. if you cleaned the carb and installed the kit correctly and it still is not working correctly the best thing to do now is to replace the carb and the gaskets. when you get the carb dont adjust anything they come pre-adjust from the factory. they are a little expensive but its about the only fix. we would replace probly 20 to 30 a week for this issuse
