This is something that should be left to a professional. A local repair shop should be able to handle this task easily. but if you insist you can try here

My HP laptop will not turn of even when plugged in

Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:
Possible causes:

1. AC adapter failure.
2. Power jack failure.
3. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
1. Test the AC adapter with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

2.It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

3. If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

How do you replace the power jack socket?

Hi there,

I'm a laptop repair specialist. The DC Power Jack is soldered to the motherboard. While I am able to do this repair I no longer take the trouble because there are many vendors on eBay who perform the service for half, or less than half, of what I'd have to charge a customer.

Go to eBay and in the search window type in "Laptop DC Power Jack Repair". You will be re-directed to a page with many choices of vendors where you simply send them the laptop and they return it repaired. You should expect to pay between about $85 to $125 including all shipping.

Take care,

TheSelkie

Power jack loose on mother board advent 5303

Hello,

If the jack is just broken loose then you should be able to disassemble the laptop and resolder the jack back onto the motherboard. If the jack is broken then you will need to get a replacement jack and change it out. You can get power jacks from several places on the internet including Ebay.com If you don't want to try the repair yourself we have a repair service and can do it for you. We charge $55 + return shipping. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

The dc power plug is broken

Yes.
Is the connector on the power adapter that plugs into the laptop?
If so, this is an easy repair, purchase a new connector from electronics parts shop, cut off the old connector and solder the new one on the end of the cable. MAKE SURE YOU SOLDER THE CONNECTIONS TO GIVE THE CORRECT POLARITY ON THE CONNECTOR, OR YOU WILL DAMAGE THE LAPTOP.

If the power socket on the laptop is faulty, this repair is more difficult. The socket may only need resoldering on the motherboard or in the worst case a new socket replacement. Either way the laptop need to be dismantled to get at the power socket.

If you don't feel you can handle this, get it done by a computer repair shop or a techo friend.
