Question about Kodak EasyShare Z740 Digital Camera
I had just taken a few pictures - about 1/2 hour later it wouldn't turn on. I have replaced the batteries twice and that is not the problem. Please help - it is just dead!!!
I, too, encountered this problem and thought it was the battery but found out the batteries worked in other equipment. If you look at the battery contacts in the battery compartment cover
you will note that the contacts are connected by a piece of metal that acts like a spring. Apparently over time the contacts are depressed into the cover thus losing contact with the battery. Simply pull the contacts outward thus increasing the tension of the spring and contact with the batteries. This is a very simple and free fix. It worked for me! No need to throw your camera away.

Mine doesn't work with rechargeable batteries anymore. If I charge them to the max and put them in my camera it'll only last like 5 minutes. If i buy nonrechargable batteries and put them in my camera it'll last for like and hour. I don't want to keep buying batteries for it! My problem is a lot like your guys'. For the record, Kodak SUCKS!! :(
I haven't gotten a new myspace picture in FOREVER because of my stupid camera. :'(

Well it appears that my problem is the same as the 5. Just wont turn on. Although this is my neices camera I thought i would try to find the problem. Hers is 1 and 1\2 years old. She thought it just needed batteries. Wrong. I find it hard to believe the sandpaper idea but I'm willing to try it..I own the canon eos d40. But cameras are like everything else now they are only as good as the warenty any more.

My camera did the same thing. I took a fine piece of sandpaper and cleaned battery terminals on camera. Works fine now. Make sure to blow out the dust when your done.

This seems to be common... Mine is 2 years old too and then it just died. Won't be buying another Kodak, bought a Nikon and it is much much better. I'm disappointed as I feel it was good money wasted!!!
