Question about Samsung HL-R4667W Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Is it the TV or Comcast?

I have been going back and forth with Comcast and reception issues. We had no problems at first when we upgraded from Basic Plus to Digital Service and installed the cablecard. About 2 weeks later, some of the HD channels would get "Weak or Scrambled Signal", and soon others would have a picture but "tiling" or pixelation. It eventually gets so bad, that it effects the analog channels as well, and I wind up with a green screen. After a number of different things (rebooting the tv by unplugging and replugging), Comcast trying to boost signal, we get a nice clean picture on all channels, so it looks like the problem is solved. But, eventually (anywhere from 2 weeks later to as soon as the next day) we starting having reception problems again. Comcast sent out techs yesterday. They checked the signal strength, and wound up changing some things out both inside and outside the house, including replacing some wiring that was coroded. After doing all that, it did not solve the problem. So, later on they came back and tried getting rid of the cablecard and going with the converter box. That did not work either. They determined it was not them, but my TV since they showed me that they could plug this old 13" tv into my cable system and the Analog channels were coming through fine. Here is where it get weird. We left the tv on when we went out, and came home a few hours later. Tiling was gone on the staion that we left it on (Local HD channel) and when he starting to look at other stations, our analog stations had come back, no green screen whatsoever. I don't know if the problem is solved, or if it is just temporary again. Anyway, the TV is a Samsung HL-R4667W, bought in 12/05 and is used mainly in the evenings (so low hours). DVD, XBox, and VCR never had an issue, and prior to going to Comcast Digital (just using Comcast Basic Plus Service), no issues with broadcast or Cable TV (no tiling/pixelation or green screens).

This is not good, since from one of the other boards, a guy posted this:

Drew and the rest of us with these so called “older sets” I hate to say it but death is inevitable. That’s just too hard for me to accept because I have never seen any name brand set with so few years not be able to be repaired. Today I spoke with one of the companies that refurbish boards and they gave me the news I feared the most. Samsung has discontinued the replacement parts. Now if you are lucky enough and want to take the chance on used boards, as I stated above that could mean buying boards that have begun to develop problems.

Sylvania LC427SSX worked fine until comcast upgraded the cable box cable modem. TV works with DVD player but not with the cabe box. Could this be a firmware issue that requires me to upgrade the software?

In my area, Comcast has blocked all free watchable basic channels. You now need a very small but special box to receive those. If it's a conventional cable box, you might have to call them to send a signal to reset it.

Tv picture changes and recording is unwatchable when trying to rec one of 4 local channels

It is the signal from the 4 local stations that is the problem, because you can record all others ok. Borrow another VCR and try to record them, if its the same tell the people who run the local channels that they are losing viewing figures, because their channels cannot be recorded.

Problem with my Arris Comcast cable modem.

I just had a tech out yesterday regarding this problem on a TM402 - restarts under high network saturation (big uploads or downloads). According to the tech, this is a know issue. Comcast upgraded their network to support multiple carriers (called channel bonding) dynamically. Due to this upgrade, when your modem is demanding high bandwidth for large downloads, essentially, it requests an additional carrier (or channel)...when that request is initiated, the modem's hardware (and firmware) can't connect to more than one channel at a time, therefore, it "gets confused" and restarts itself to attempt to fix the problem. I upgraded to the TM602, and the problem is still there. This is because the channel bonding feature requires a Docsis 3.0 capable modem. The Arris TM702 is the first in the Arris line to offer docsis 3.0. I called Comcast and they are upgrading me to the Arris TM702 (which is a 50M down/10M up service, btw) for an additional $30/month - well worth it for the stability which I require.

As far as Comcast saying that it's fine, call them back with the information I provided, and ask to get you to a tech who can better service your needs...unfortunately, the "tier 1" techs don't have a clue.

Comcast Cable Down All Day Every Day

Here's some things to check:
If there are signal splitters on your cable for TV, computer, more than one tv, the signal is getting divided ...every splitter will weaken the signal.
Check for unneeded splitters, also there are splitters that have a wider frequency capability.
Consider upgrading to 2hgz splitters if needed.
Also I think that the more homes that are on the cable tend to make the signal weaker...I don't comcast would fess up to this, but I'm pretty sure it's true.
Make sure all your cable connections are snug and you may want to double check for corrosion etc. on each connection.
I resorted to a signal amplifier on my home. We've got comcast for cable tv and internet, with multiple tv's and multiple computers.
The amplifier (motorola) boosted the signal for everything and we've got way less dropped, frozen pix, black screens and the internet is back up to speed.
Comcast even came out and put a signal strength meter on the in-line to the house and stated it's within their limits... Glad I put the amp on the line..
Give it a try.

I need firmware for multi-stream card for cable TV reception

contact a authiorized hitachi servicer. they will need to down load the software and load it to your set (if ther is a software upgrade)
Be aware that most sets have problems with comcast cards. Comcast would rather have you rent one of their boxes.

Comcast Remote Control Code

comcast sucks and its tech support are a bunch of idiots. the book that comes with the remote is wrong (and for some reason no one in tech support knows this). the remote requires 5 digit codes and all the codes in the book are 4. typing the number 1 in front of any of the codes in the book, for any device and manufacturer, should fix this problem.
