System restore utility not getting activated by known methods

Hi m unable to turn on windows system restore, MESSAGE COMES - UR SYSTEM IS NOT PROTECTED BY SYSTEM RESTORE

    Did you ever adjust your system restore features? it sounds to me like your computer's system restore is turned off. In order to fix it... you need to turn on your system restore so that your computer will monitor activity and create "restore points" when installations are done or system checkpoints to restore the system to in the event that your computer has issues and needs to be restored.

Hi there,
As Wolf68 say, it may cause more trouble than fixes, the best bet, is reinstall windows, at point is better because a lot things concerning the restore points:
1) Programs you install recently
2) bad Programs errors, or checkpoints .
3) Reginstry problems
4) statics Viruses.

I'm a certified computer tech and have been doing this for years. system restore often causes more problems than it fixes. I recently ran into this issue on a friends computer. upon investigating his computer was infected with a nasty virus that infected all of his restore points. go to housecall.antiviurs.com or another security website and run a free online virus scan. check that first, if that isn't the problem try manually going into system restore and running it (start > all programs> Accessories > System Tools > system restore). it may be able to be fixed with the system restore. if not you may want to consider either taking it to a technician or backing up your files and reloading the comptuer.

Restore to last known Good Configuration:

To use the Last Known Good Configuration feature, first restart the computer by pressing [Ctrl][Alt][Delete]. When you see the message Please select the operating system to start or hear the single beep, press [F8] to display the Windows Advanced Options menu. Select the Last Known Good Configuration item from the menu and press [Enter].

Keep in mind that you get only one shot with the Last KnownGood Configuration feature. In other words, if it fails to revive your WindowsXP on the first attempt, the backup copy is also corrupt.
Use system utility software like RegInOut after restarting windows.

One of the most common troubleshooting issues in Windows XP is the failure of a system to start up properly. These failures can be caused by a number of issues, including poorly written or malicious software, faulty device drivers, hardware incompatibilities, corrupt or missing system files and incorrect system configurations. Determining the source of the startup problem, and fixing it, is easier if you use a methodical, step-by-step approach.
If the system will not start in Normal Mode or Safe Mode
A Windows XP system that will not start in Normal or Safe Mode is not a good sign and may be the result of corrupt or missing system files, a corrupt registry, hardware drivers or failed services. Your first step is to press F8 during Startup and select the Last Known Good Configuration option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu. If Windows boots normally, check the event logs and hardware manager for clues as to what may have caused the failure. You may also want to check the Add/Remove Programs menu for any new applications that may have contributed to the failure.
If the Last Known Good Configuration fails, the next step is to start the Recovery Console by booting from the Windows XP Startup CD and pressing "R" to repair when the "Welcome to System Setup" screen appears, then press "C" to start the Recovery Console. The Recovery Console is a command line utility that can be used to identify and solve a number of issues in the event that Windows cannot start, including starting and stopping services and drivers. If you receive an error on startup stating that a system file is missing or corrupt, Recovery Console can be used to replace those files as well. For a list of available commands, simply type HELP at the command prompt. For more detailed information about the Recovery Console, check out Microsoft Knowledge Base article 307654.
If you are unable to determine if a driver or service is responsible for the startup failure, you should run the Checkdisk utility from the Recovery Console by typing CHKDSK at the command prompt. This utility scans your hard drive and checks for problems with the disk or file system, which may result in corrupt or missing system files. You should also check the system CMOS and BIOS settings for configuration errors or corrupt data. Note: CMOS and BIOS data corruption can occur as a result of a dead or weak internal battery. Check your motherboard documentation for details.
If you are still unable to determine the cause of startup failure at this point, you have the following options:
  1. Use System Restore to return your critical system files and some program files from a previous restore point. I've had mixed results with System Restore, but at this point, it is still worth a shot. System Restore can be activated from the Recovery Console. The advantage of using System Restore is that your personal files located in My Documents will not be overwritten or deleted. More information can be found in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 306084.
  2. Restore from a backup tape: While this method will recover your system, you will lose any data stored on your workstation that was created after the system was backed up. This method will also not help you identify the root cause of the startup failure, which may occur again.
  3. Perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation): This process reinstalls the operating system but may result in data loss if not done correctly. The advantage is that it should return the workstation to a bootable state in which important files can be copied. Applications, service packs and system updates may need to be reinstalled for the system to function properly. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 315341.
  4. Perform a parallel installation: A parallel installation involves creating a second Windows XP installation on the same workstation, either in a new folder or on a secondary (slaved) hard drive. The advantage of this approach is that it allows data to be recovered on the primary drive, assuming disk failure was not the cause of the startup issue. After any critical data is recovered, the original installation can be restored from backup source and updated with the new files.

The message is prompted by Microsoft Windows WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) software.

To start I must advise you that the best thing to do is contacting Microsoft, and asking them as to proceed, as the system installed on your computer may be counterfeited.

If you get the Microsoft Genuine software warning, that usually means that the installed system key is not recognized as valid. This often happens when the system is installed with a number that is not the one printed in the sticker.
In some case the WGA message was prompted in presence of genuine Windows installation because of a system bug.

If you have a Windows version that is the same as the license number printed on the COA sticker, then the best thing to do is changing the number and then validating Windows again. See here:Genuine Microsoft Software.

If your installed software is a different version from the one you have a valid COA (eg. XP Home Edition on sticker vs. XP Professional installed), then you must install the Windows version for which you have the license or purchase the proper license for your system. Any unlicensed use of Microsoft software will be illegal.

In case you want temporarily need to remove the Genuine Microsoft Software warning before installing genuine software, you can follow the steps below.

Method 1 System Restore.

A system restore to a date before the warning started will stop the message.
The restore will set the the computer to the same state it was in the date before the warning message started.
The data will not be deleted, but all settings and software installed after restore date will be affected. Do a backup of your data before starting system restore.

Method 2 Software utilities.

There are several utilities to remove the WGA logon message. Try the ones listed below.

RemoveWGA.exe,

Remove WGA 1.2.exe.

Method 3: Delete software and change registry values.

You can get rid of the message changing the registries below. Do a backup of Windows registry before starting. If you change te wrong registry entry, Windows may not start. If that happens, then you will have to get rid of the problem installing a genuine Windows.

Launch Task Manager.by pressing Ctrl Alt Del at the same time. Look for the process “WgaTray.exe” and stop it.
Start computer in Safe Mode and delete the file WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32
Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache
Type Regedit in Run box and open Registry Editor.
In Regedit find the entry called : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify key.
Delete the folder WgaLogon and all of its contents.
Restart the PC normally.


The methods to remove the WGA message are not a solution to the problem. The procedures illustrated will remove the warning, but the system will not be properly licensed. Arrange reinstall of the system according to Windows version listed in your COA , or purchase a valid Microsoft product.

I know that you are unable to start the current vista operation system and getting the error 0xc00000e9; the issue can be caused by the damaged system files or hardware device. You might first follow the steps below to exclude the possibility of system corruption.


Method 1: Use the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) to run System Restore

1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.

2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD ...". appears.

3. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next.

4. Click Repair your computer.

5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next

6. At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on System Restore.

7. Follow the System Restore Wizard instruction as usual and choose the appropriate restore point.

8. Click Finish to restore the system.


Method 2: Startup Repair from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

1:restart the computer
2:Press and Hold F8 Key
3:Select last known good configuration> and press enter

(if the above solution did not solve your problem use the second method )

4:instead of selecting last known good configuration you select Safe mode and do System Restore

Install the eRecovery drivers for aspire 5715Z


First ensure you have enabled D2D from Bios, If bios settings are OK then that message often comes up when E recovery partition is damaged.

Possible solutions are calling Acer and getting a disk to restore recovery partition (best way to proceed)

Or downloading and installing drivers from acer website

Here is recovery procedure from manual, to ensure you are doing corrrectly:

Create backup
You can create and save backup images to hard disk, CD or DVD.
1 Boot to Windows XP
2 Press Alt + F10 to open the Acer eRecovery Management utility.
3 Enter the password to proceed. The default password is six zeros.
4 In the Acer eRecovery Management window, select Recovery settings and
click Next.
5 In the Recovery settings window, select Backup snapshot image and
click Next.
6 Select the backup method.
a Use Backup to HDD to store the backup disk image on drive D:.
b Backup to optical device to store the backup image on CD or DVD.
7 After choosing the backup method, click Next.
Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.
Restore from backup
You can restore backups previously created (as stated in the Create backup
section) from hard disk, CD or DVD.
1 Boot to Windows XP.
2 Press Alt + F10 to open the Acer eRecovery Management utility.
3 Enter the password to proceed. The default password is six zeros.
4 In the Acer eRecovery Management window, select Recovery actions and
click Next.
5 Select the desired restore action and follow the onscreen instructions to
complete the restore process

My hp 7965 pc desktop (pavillion) starts fine but when loading windows xp, it gets to a piont and restarts the computer completely, over and over again. HELP please!!


Some Software Applications May Cause Windows Stop Responding or Restart During Startup or Boot in Windows XP.

If a PC that has been working properly fails to startup or boot, especially after a new application or driver is installed, it is necessary to perform one or more of the following methods to correct the problem. The PC may lockup, freeze, hang, or automatically restart when the Windows Desktop first displays during startup.
Method 1: Disabling automatic restart
This method disables automatic restart if you are unable to view Windows Desktop and/or the notebook continues rebooting automatically (whether by the user or the notebook continues booting without user intervention).
1. During the rebooting process, repeatedly press the F8 key to enter Windows Advance Options Menu.
2. Use the up and down arrow keys to select Disable automatic restart on system failure and then press the Enter key.
3. Use up and down arrow keys to select the operating system to start (if more than one OS is installed).
4. Press the Enter key. Windows should start.

Method 2: Use last known good configuration
Using the last known good configuration may allow the pc to boot to Windows using the most recent settings that worked.
1. During the rebooting process, repeatedly press the F8 key to enter Windows Advance Options Menu.
2. Use the up and down arrow keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked) and then press the Enter key.
3. Use up and down arrow keys to select the operating system to start (if more than one OS is installed).
4.Press the Enter key.

Method 3: Use System Restore to reset Windows to an earlier known safe operating point
This method reverses recent operating system changes to the notebook PC, such as the installation of new software, and takes the computer back to a previous working state. This method may uninstall or remove the software that is causing the problem. Check with the software manufacturer for any known problems and reinstall the software if appropriate.
1. Start Windows in the Safe Mode as follows:
- Remove any disks or CDs, and disconnect any external devices or peripherals.
- Press and hold the Power button for 5 seconds to turn off the computer.
- Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
- Press the F8 key repeatedly when the first screen appears.
- From the Windows Advanced Start-up menu, select Safe Mode and press ENTER .
The computer may run slower in the Safe Mode and the desktop will not look as nice due to reduced colors.
2. Click Start , then click Help and Support .
3. On the Help and Support home page, click System Restore .
4. On the System Restore page, select the Restore my computer to an earlier time option and click Next .
5. Navigate through the calendar looking for a highlighted date and select a restore point date and time that is earlier than when you started experiencing the problem, then click Next .
The computer should shut down and turn back on by itself after the restoration completes. When the Restoration Complete window appears, click OK to continue.

Method 4: Uninstall recently installed applications using Add/Remove Programs
1. Start Windows in the Safe Mode as follows:
- Remove any disks or CDs, and disconnect any external devices or peripherals.
- Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to turn off the computer.
- Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
- Press the F8 key repeatedly when the first screen appears.
- From the Windows Start-up menu, select Safe Mode and press ENTER .
The computer may run slower in Safe Mode and the desktop will not look as nice due to reduced colors.
2. On the Windows taskbar click Start , click Control Panel and then click Add or Remove Programs .
3. Navigate through the alphabetical list of all installed programs and select the name of the most recently installed program or programs.
4. Click Remove , click OK when prompted to verify the removal of the program.
5. Restart the computer by selecting Start , Shutdown , and Restart .
- If the computer starts up properly, contact the software manufacturer for updated instructions for a proper installation.
- If the computer does not start up properly, reboot the computer in the Safe Mode and repeat the methods for uninstalling any other recently installed software.

Method 5: Remove applications that load during startup using the System Configuration Utility
If the system fails to start properly after installing a new software application, there may be conflicts with the application if it loads during startup. To resolve the problem, it may be necessary to use the System Configuration Utility to remove the application from Windows startup, or to change the startup sequence.
1. Start Windows in the Safe Mode as follows:
- Remove any disks or CDs, and disconnect any external devices or peripherals.
- Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds to turn off the computer.
- Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
- Press the F8 key repeatedly when the first screen appears.
- From the Windows Start-up menu, select Safe Mode and click ENTER .
The computer may run slower in Safe Mode and the desktop will not look as nice due to reduced colors.
2. Click Start , click Run , type MSCONFIG , then click OK .
3. On the System Configuration Utility window, on the General tab, select Selective Startup option, and unselect the Load Startup Items .
4. Click OK and then click Restart .
The computer should restart and operate properly even without loading any of the startup items. Most startup items are helpful utilities that run in the background or sit in the system tray until they are needed.
- If the computer does not restart and operate properly, there is a more severe problem and performing the method for reinstalling the Windows OS may be necessary.
- If the computer restarts properly, examine and enable the entries under the startup tab.

a window will come u shld select restore computer to an earlier time then next u can find the callender on the next windows...u shld select the earlier date (before this complined started)then go next ,the system will restart automatically..after that u will get a message restoration complete.then click ok ...
