Question about GE GSH25JFR Side by Side Refrigerator
I'm having multiple problems with my Maytag Plus MSD2456GE side-by-side refrigerator......
The water leak from my freezer may be the same situation as the others I've read about, but I'm also having trouble with the icemaker.
I've noticed that the water actually comes from INSIDE the back of the freezer compartment, from some sort of grate. The leaking seems to happen during the defrost cycle and as many others have said, it pools up in the bottom of the freezer (forming a massive ice block) and then some of it pours out onto the floor from the bottom of the freezer door. Is there a blockage in the drain line?
This has been going on for some time now. It all started when I came in the kitchen one morning to find a floor full of water, all around the refrigerator. I opened up the freezer and icicles were covering the entire freezer compartment!! It looked as if the icemaker had sprayed water out (no telling how many times). I had been having problems with the icemaker for some time. Most of the ice cubes were hollow, as if the tray wasn't filling up enough. Then, when it would dump the ice, the little "fingers", as I call them, wouldn't go all the way back down into the tray because there'd be some drops of water that would freeze on it and obstruct the proper functioning. When this happens, it's as if it has been cut off by the wire lever arm. You can push the "fingers" down into the tray, thereby breaking the ice "balls" off by force, and the icemaker will start working again, even though the tray still doesn't fill up with enough water. Since we cannot afford to get the fix-it man out here, I just shut the thing off and stopped using it. But I'd sure like to get it working.
I linked these two problems together because I thought they may be related. I recently took the (inside) water filter cartridge off and replaced it with the (factory) filter bypass plug, thinking that maybe the filter wasn't letting enough water flow into the ice tray. I haven't turned it back on since doing that, however. I'm scared that it'll spray my freezer again and I'll have a flood in my kitchen!! Anyway, I also did this hoping that the water leaking onto the floor would stop. It seemed to have stopped for several days, then a couple of days ago, I noticed it's back to the same old thing. Could the hollow ice cubes be from: poor water pressure from the supply tubes -- a sensor (for water level in the tray) -- a timer (for water level in the tray)? And the ice obstruction on the "fingers"??
Let me tell you.....I am at my wits end with this supposed "nicer-much-more-expensive-than-I'm-used-to" model of refrigerator!! If you can lend ANY ASSISTANCE WHATSOEVER, I would be eternally grateful. Help me
My refrigerator is not cooling and neither is my freezor. I think it is frozen up. CAn I just unplug it for a day or so
