Question about Saeco Vienna SuperAutomatica Coffee Maker/Espresso Machine

1 Answer

Too much water in espresso, Steam spits water

When we make an espresso the espresso turns out weak and with a little too much water. The steam also spits water. It's as if the boiler does not come up to the proper temperature. We have descaled the machine but it does little or no improvement. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'd like to make stronger, hotter expresso, too. We have it set to a fine grind, good Italian beans, maximum coffee dispensed & minimal water. The digital version allows temperature adjustment. Is there a way to increase the temperature on this model?

Hi
Yes it is possible to raise the temperature but it requires taking the top off. Most people are not into removing the top. email me if interested

Steam is not strong on my ec702 delonghi. I have cleaned the wands. The wand spits out a lot of water with a strong steam, bu the steam gets weaker as I am trying to froth.

The steam temperature control (Thermostat) is not functioning.
The small quantity you get at the start is the steam pressure build up with hot water. Water steam cannot keep up the pressure.
Replace the steam thermostat.

Gaggia TS Espresso Machine although my machine seams to work OK, It does not seam to produce much steam any help would great

Their is a grait posibility that the steam want is blocked from dry milk that is why you have weaker steam out. So you can first try to boil only water for some minutes and then leave the steam want in for more than 30 minutes. Then try the steam again and posibly the dry milk will be spit out. You can even boil the water with some cooking soda in it which can help more.
One more think that can help to clean the steam wand is to use a thin flexible steel wire in the steam wand so it can clean it more.
This is the most posible solutions you can try.
Good Luck

Rancilio Silvia: The steam works only for about 10 seconds

Remove the top panel and check the 3 thermostat on the machine one of them is not functioning properly, find the wire to the steam switch and trace it to the thermostat.

No steam when valve opened, spits out water in the beginning of frothing

There is a small teflon piece on the inside of the steam tube, you will have to disassemble the frother to get to it. Remove this piece. Reassemble and the wand should work fine.

Can't get milk to foam

Place 1/3 part distilled white vinegar and 2/3 part water into the water reservoir. Turn the machine on and wait for the heat light to go off. Once the heat light goes off, turn the steam vs. water knob to the water drop icon, and turn the main function knob to steam/water. Make sure to have your frothing cup underneath the steam element ready to catch the water. The vinegar/water solution should clear out the calcium that clogs the steam element. Also, remove the cover to the steam element and dip it in a bowl with vinegar for about 5 minutes, and use something like a pipe cleaner to clean out that cover. Then apply vinegar and hot water to a rag and clean the calcium off the shaft of the steam element. Once you are all finished with this, run plain water through the espresso maker on the steam/water setting to clear out the bitter vinegar residue. Now, try again to make espresso and froth it.

Since milk contains calcium, the steam element has to be decalcified more often than a regular coffee maker. The EM-100 is a beautiful machine, but it is definitely high-maintenance - you will probably spend more time cleaning it than making cappuccino, etc.

Good luck!
