Re: Cd Drive

For about $39.00 (USD) you can buy a DVD/RW drive. It is very simple to replace.

1. Open computer case (usally secured by two screws) Make sure system is off and unplugged.

2. Removal of the front Bezel may be necessary (usally push tabs)

3. You will see power cable and either IDE or SATA cable, make note of orientation as well as any jumper settings,

4. Remove drive usally secured by either rails or screws, determine which is used and remove. Drive may slide forward or backwards depending on mounting, do not use much force you should see and feel easy path to removal.

5. Set jumpers the same way as removed drive. Slide in new drive, same way as old one was removed. Connect IDE or SATA cable and reconnect power cable.

Replace Bezel if applicable and cover of computer, power up computer and when windows starts, you should see the new drive in my computer. Test with CD or DVD.

Re: Cd Drive

Go to your local radioshack or electronics store and purchase a cleaning disc, usually 15 or 20 bucks. Make sure you get the right one as there are diffrent cleaning discs for dvd or cd. The disc has a microfiber brush that removes dirt and debris as it spins, these can be used in all diffrent cd players, not just computers, car cd players, home. Anyway good luck L8R

Can't play CD's

The cdrom drives are either dirty or the laser eye needs to be calibrated. The reason that dvd's would work in the one drive but the cds will not is because there is the signal used to generate the reading of the dvd is different from the cd signal. this is the simplest way to explain it.

think of it as a stove that works on both gas and electric. you use the gas but one day you run out and only the electric works. you need to fill the gas tank first to use it again. In the case of the computer you need to tune the laser or clean it.

Without a lil technical background i would not advise opening the unit to do this. i would take this to a service technician. Purchasing a new drive though would be cheaper in the long run. Even 2 new drives would cost aroudn 60$ online where cleaning from a tech could be that or double.

My cd drive dosent reads or des not work at all

be sure to check that the power supply cable is properly connected to the cd drive. also check the IDE/SATA cable. if the cd drive is working and you hear some movement inside but it doesnt read any cd, try to remove the cd drive and open it by removing its cover. clean the lens using a dry cotton swab and use a compress air to remove the accumulated dust inside. if this doesnt work, maybe its about time to replace your cd drive with a new one available in the market. goodluck

Wont read or recognise there is acd inserted

When you open my computer do you see the drive in the window? If the drive does not show up in this window you can check two things, check to be sure that the cable connecting the drive to the mother board is good. And the other issue could be that the drive itself has gone bad. If it is unable to read any cd's then you probably need a new drive. Be sure to put in several cd's to be sure it is not the cd disk.

Had a drive that did the exact same thing myself. You'll need to replace the CD drive. It's cheaper than having it repaired.

I have just brought a new pack of blank CD's, i am

Its a common problem with CDs. Check that your CD drive can PLAY CDs. If so either the CD drives optical head is dirty or your CD pack are low quality. CDs damage real easy. Try putting another CD, another brand or you must use CD doctor-something like that. Did that help

My cd drive doesnt work anymore, it wont let me install programs, burn cds or dvds, but it plays some cds.

Alright I would say its something wrong with your laser in your CD-rom or something so i would say go to the store and buy a new DVD ROM DRIVE and just replace it with the one you have and ifits not working just let me know

Roxio cd creator 9 cannot burn a cd because it says drive not detected? How do i change this? you have a cd burner in your system? is it working for you to at least read cds on it? check the cd drive unit has a something that says "compac disk rewriteable" if not.. you don't have a cd burner only a cd rom drive that will only read cds but won't burn them
2. check device manager and look for the removable storage.. do you see the cd burner drive listed and in working condition?

My Cd drive is not reading ANY cds

Sounds like the lense of the drive is dirty, buy a cleaning disk for it, and see if that helps, otherwise you may have to get a new drive, cause this one may be defective.

if not close it.

1)left clik my computer
2)double clik the cd rom drive, making sure theres a disk in it.
3)right clik on my computer
device manager
look for a yellow exclamation point or red X where the cd-rom is.
high light the cd-rom
right clik
restart the computer
windows will detect and re-install the cd-rom drive.
try a cd

if that doesnt work update windows

also buy a cd-rom cleaner at your local electronics store
