Question about GE Profile Harmony DPGT750EC Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Shutting off every 20 minutes

We've had our dryer for not even 2 years. Suddenly is is shutting off automatically when drying, every 20 minutes. Then it takes 5 minutes before it will allow me to restart it. Then it will dry for 20 minutes and shut off again.

Your thremal fuse is getting hot. OR There are overloads attached to the element housing and one of them is getting hot and automatically resetting itself once it is cooled.

Dryer keeps shutting off while drying. Even if holding the push to start knob it will shut down. Is this a sensor problem or a 8 year old dryer problem

Hello;

My name is peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You did not provide a model number which is on a metal tag on the face of the dryer after you open the door, so I can only be general.

A dryer should last your 15-20 years or more. You are probably plugged up with lint and have poor air flow witch will shut you down, or you may have a bad high temperature thermal switch.

My electric dryer shuts off after about 20 minutes of drying

ok sounds like you are using dryer sheets,,,dryer sheets coat the automatic dry sensors and fool the unit into thinking the clothing is dry,,,,replace the sensor or try to clean it if possable with a green scrubbie,,,,also try the time cycle it dose not use the sensor.......www.myabcspace.com/washerwizzards

My dryer is four years old and will dry moderately well for 20 minutes or so, then won't dry an longer.

Is your motor running? If it is I would start at thermostats They may not be cycling right.Motor may also be heating up than shutting off If so replace motor.

Maytag LDG 712 shuts off before clothes are dry.

First, The most common part would be the over limit safety, it will be mounted to the element housing. Second, there is a thermal fuse usually a small disk with a little fuse inside. You can find these (with your model no.) at www.Repairclinic.com .Good luck.

Dryer cuts off before clothes are dry.

Might be the thermal protector in the motor that is shutting down the dryer, if motor overheats this is what will happen. Make sure there is no lint build up around the motor, if not the motor is bad. does the dryer start right away after shutting off or do you have to wait? If you have to wait the motor is bad.

Your motor is very likely overheating and needs replacement. A simple test is the motor will be so hot you cannot even touch it. Hope this helps!
