Maytag Microwave Power Outage - Model MMV5000BAB

Ok...first. My microwave is a Maytag, but not the model number above. It is MMV5000BAB. I could not find a category for that in your options. It is 1,600 Watts and 14.6 Amps. The other night one of my kids went to use it and thought she had pressed the timer function...to time something else she was cooking in the kitchen. Instead...she pressed "cook." Well, 40 minutes later after "cooking" with "nothing" inside it, it shutdown and hasn't worked since. I looked downstairs and it didn't blow the breaker or anything. I checked the plug and that looks fine. Is there some type of fuse in the unit I should be checking and if so, do you know where that might be? The unit is mounted above our gas stove and I only have a manual, which doesn't tell me much of anything. When we bought our house the microwave was here. It has a fan/vent and again is mounted above the stove. Before I just blindly dig into, I thought you guys might have a suggestion. Since there's no schematic in the operational book, I'm not sure where to turn. Also...it shows how to replace a bulb, replace the fan filter, but nothing about a fuse or even where it is. Please let me know your thoughts when you get a chance. I would very much appreciate it and by the way "great web site too!" Thanks. Brian

My wife did the same thing (she left it on with nothing in it). I would think if the magnetron was bad, though, you should at least get basic keypad function. Am I right anyone?

It's almost certain that your magnetron has failed and/or thermostat which is mounted on it. Fist, unplug the oven from the pwer. Then open the door and remove the stirrer cover in the ceiling of the oven. Look for any dark brown burns, charred spots, or "rusty" looking areas. This would indicate that the waveguide has burned, which means the microwave needs to be disposed of. If it passes that test, I'd say the magnetron and/or thermostat area bad. SOURCE: Maytag Microwave Power Outage - Model MMV5000BAB

Found this under GE instead of Maytag, but can answer for you here.

It may be the internal fuse, but more likely it is the thermostat on the magnetron.

How do you access the fuse in a Maytag Model#MMV5000BAB

The fuse is inside. You have to remove the outer cabinet to get to it but be aware that dangerous, possibly fatal, voltages lurk inside, even with power disconnected.

Model NE-9970. After a storm-caused power outage, why does the microwave have no power to the control board?

Usually the microwave is plugged into a ground fault protected outlet. Push the buttons on the receptical and power should come on. The ground fault may be above your counter top and protects the plug your microwave is pluffed into.

My amana model number amv1150vas is not working after a power outage

Unplug for 60 seconds to see if it will reset, if no! the fuse in the microwave has opened/ or if the model is the new type, it is the keypad control board or smart board.

If you're talking about an over the range model, it's recommended that two people do it so they can either work together or have one be a spotter.

I'd need the model number to get the weight, but the critical part is when it's up in the air, well above your center of gravity.

You may be able to find the installation instructions on their site at http://maytag.com/support/manuals_literature.jsp

Not working model # jvm1339bw 002

Check the main internal fuse. Unplug it, unscrew and take off the cover, the fuse should be easily found in the back by the power cord. It looks like a regular fuse but is white instead of clear glass because microwave fuses are special. You'll have to measure it with a meter as a result and be sure to replace it with the same kind. (try finding them at radio shack) Hopefully there isn't something more serious also.
Hope ya fix it!
