Question about Maytag MMV5207A Microwave Oven
Ok...first. My microwave is a Maytag, but not the model number above. It is MMV5000BAB. I could not find a category for that in your options. It is 1,600 Watts and 14.6 Amps. The other night one of my kids went to use it and thought she had pressed the timer function...to time something else she was cooking in the kitchen. Instead...she pressed "cook." Well, 40 minutes later after "cooking" with "nothing" inside it, it shutdown and hasn't worked since. I looked downstairs and it didn't blow the breaker or anything. I checked the plug and that looks fine. Is there some type of fuse in the unit I should be checking and if so, do you know where that might be? The unit is mounted above our gas stove and I only have a manual, which doesn't tell me much of anything. When we bought our house the microwave was here. It has a fan/vent and again is mounted above the stove. Before I just blindly dig into, I thought you guys might have a suggestion. Since there's no schematic in the operational book, I'm not sure where to turn. Also...it shows how to replace a bulb, replace the fan filter, but nothing about a fuse or even where it is. Please let me know your thoughts when you get a chance. I would very much appreciate it and by the way "great web site too!" Thanks. Brian
It's almost certain that your magnetron has failed and/or thermostat which is mounted on it. Fist, unplug the oven from the pwer. Then open the door and remove the stirrer cover in the ceiling of the oven. Look for any dark brown burns, charred spots, or "rusty" looking areas. This would indicate that the waveguide has burned, which means the microwave needs to be disposed of. If it passes that test, I'd say the magnetron and/or thermostat area bad. Found this under GE instead of Maytag, but can answer for you here.
It may be the internal fuse, but more likely it is the thermostat on the magnetron.
