Are you using detergent that is rated for HE (high-efficiency) washers? They are manufactured to require less per load and produce fewer suds. Conventional detergents in HE washers will result in over-sudsing.
The SD error code is caused by using the wrong detergent or excessive amounts of detergent.
To correct the issue: Make sure to use HE detergent. Note: Using Non - HE Detergent will cause oversudsing and can damage the washer. Do not use too much detergent.
Note: If using HE 2x - 5x concentrate detergent, reduce the amount being used. The washer will try to run a mini-clean out cycle using cold water and a 5 minute pause to clear the suds. If this cycle does not clear the display and complete the cycle the clothing may need to be rinsed by hand and then rewashed without detergent.
You might be using too much detergent and causing a sudslock condition. The machine uses very little water and any amount over a teaspoon of HE will simply cause the machine to lock down. An OE error means it took longer than 10 minutes to drain the tub. IF the machine is trying to correct a sud problem it will continually toss in more water till sudslock is corrected. Press and hold: SPIN SPEED & SOIL LEVEL buttons--then press POWER button. Wait for door to lock.
Press the START button (6) times--this will fill the tub with hot water to the maximum setting when it stops filling.
Press the START button two more times--this will enable the tub to tumble. After 3 hours--turn "off" the washer. Turn the washer back "on". Select the shortest wash cycle (usually "quick wash") and press "START". This will rinse out the tub. This method of "TUB CLEAN" is *not* from a service manual but has been the best method for cleaning out LG washers more than a year into incorrect detergent usage.
With all modern front loading washers, you might find that the amount of detergent you need is much less than what is recommended by the detergent makers!
First, be sure you're using the He (High Efficiency) detergent and try using only 2 or 3 tablespoons of detergent. If you've heavily stained clothes, be sure to pre-treat them rather than adding more detergent. That should also help with the extra soap left in the clothes after a complete wash cycle.
Give this a try and adjust the detergent as needed to get the best results for your situation.
