Re: Film advance lever

Yes this is fairly common with K 1000 and the Spotmatics : although the shutter is cocked and hence you cannot advance film you cannot release shutter because mirror box is not cocked. Remedy : remove bottom cover and locate mirror box lever which protrudes slightely and is movable up and down and is spring loaded. Move upwards until it licks in position ( moving up against spring tension ). Now release the shutter and camera should let you advance the film .

The flip up switch to rewind the film has fallen off, I have all the original pieces but cannot fit the bar in. How do I take off the rewind lever to fix it?

Perhaps the following site will help you visualize the fixing. I remind you that these film cameras sell for very little now days and can be purchased for a song. see:

My pentax k1000 works great except for when I first load the film. Every time I first load the film, the rewind knob wont rotate when I snap pictures. Everything on the inside is intact and usually I have...

I'm not sure I see a problem here. There is enough slack in the film that the first few exposures can spool out of the canister without it turning. If in doubt, close the back and then _lightly_ turn the rewind crank to take up the slack. Don't force it, just turn it until you feel resistance. Then advance the film and see whether the rewind knob turns.

My pentax k1000 wont advance the film. How can I fix it?

First inspect the bottom of the camera, on the right side there should be the pin that you push in when you roll up the film. If it is not protruding while there is film inside then there is a issue with the mechanism.

If not then it may be an issue with the way the film is inserted. Is it a new problem or has it been an issue since you aquired the camera?

Loud grinding noise when I "****" the film.

does this noise happen with film loaded or all the time?
this could be a broken gear or the take-up spool is slipping. with the film door opened advance the lever and check if the take up spool is turning. if not turning then a gear is broken. if the spool is turning then the spool is slipping.
there are no new parts available for the K1000, however some camera repair shops have good used parts that can be used.
the take-up spool was one of the very few weak parts of the K1000, you can make a temp. repair if you want.
on the take-up spool push down lightly on the gear like wheel and rotate the spool you should see a hairline crack under where the film is inserted. check both sides. if you find the crack put a very small amount of super glue on the crack using a tooth pick or similar tool. this works 80% of the time.
if you take or send your K1000 to a camera repair shop get an estimate first.

Film Advance Problem

The take up spool is cracked at the base causing the spool to slip. The camera must be mostly disassembled to replace the spool ( if available ) . This is one of the very few weak parts in the K1000. send or take it to a camera repair shop for an estimate first. --- or--
separate the base of the spool by pushing down on the gear like wheel and if you find the small crack from the bottom of the spool film slots, very carefully put a dab of super glue on the crack. check both sides of the spool. this works about 80% of the time. however it's better to replace the spool.

Film advance lever stuck

The shutter parts are most likely broken. That is usually the tell-tale sign of a broken camera, not advancing. Repairs for film cameras are very expensive and if parts are needed, it may be impossible for a 20+ year old camera. My suggestion is to find a replacement film camera system. Your Ricoh lenses will fit on a Pentax camera, but not work in Auto Mode. Prices of used Pentax cameras with built in motor drives are around $100. Check on line cameras stores. They have lots of use cameras/lense. A lens to use on that is another $75 or so. Only Nikon and Canon make new film cameras anymore. If you want an indestructable K-mount, find a Pentax K1000. Many lenses are available but no motor drive nor auto exposure on that model.

Film Advance Will Not move

Hi,powerpe. The mirror release rod can be located in the bottom of the body once the plate has been removed.(there are three screws on the old k1000's) There is a gear train on the left side when viewed turned over. The mirror cockong rod is towards the rear and a little right of the main shaft. You might need to move a little silver pawl with a pin or micro driver then you can push the mirror **** in to release the reflex mirror.the mirror cocking rod is about 1/8" dia.Hope this helps

Film advance lever

Your camera is cocked but since the shutter is not working you cannot release it and hence your film advance mechanism does not work. ME-super will work without batteries in full manual mode so set your shutter to B and try to release it. If the shutter will not release in B mode then the shutter/mirror box will need servicing : rubber components in the mirror box mechanism have perished and need replacing. After that your camera will be fine for another couple of years.

Film advance

I don't suggest that you attempt to repair this yourself. The K1000 is a very solid camera and one that isn't very expensive to repair. Please do yourself a favour and take it to your local camera repair shop. You'll be glad you did.
