Question about Black & Decker D2030 Iron

1 Answer

B & D Light and Easy Steam/Regular Iron

The iron is several years old. It still works on heat, but the steam button does not engage and the iron dues not work in steam mode. A screw has fallen out of the unit, and I'm sure this is the problem. How do I get inside the iron? The only screw is in the back and has a triangular entry. I do not have that tool. Is there a simple way of getting access to the interior?

The iron has been all descaled, however we cannot get any steam when pressing the button. It is a Tefal express generator model 3 years old.

Once you have descaled the boiler and refilled your frontpiece of the iron itself (hopefully with distilled water - any supermarket) you press the "reset"/ "restart" button on the back end of the steam generating unit. When the water is hot enough press steam button & turbo button a few times - WARNING: make sure iron is facing downwards and cover ironing board with old rag because initially brown steam splatter will come out on first few steam releases.

Why steam iron won't heat up

if there is no light or heat even when the thermostat is switched to the hottest setting then assumption is that the iron is defective.

with the iron not plugged in check the cable and see if it is worn or kinked or cut. look for any burn markings on the plug. if the iron is some years old it may also be that the element has burnt out. this happens more often in areas where water scale is high.

I hope this was useful.

The iron heats up, but when the steam generator button is pressed no steam gets through at all.

Chemicals and minerals in the water have probably clogged the vents. Empty the water. Pour 1/2 cup WHITE vinegar into the reservoir. Turn on your iron and let it heat. Then press the steam generator button several times until the vinegar is gone. Unplug the iron. As it is cooling, take acotton swab and gently wipe the surface of the vents. You can probe GENTLY with the swab, but don't push it into the vent or the cotton head may get stuck.
As you're pressing the steam button, keep the iron in the ironing position, not standing. If the vinegar just will not come out of the vents, use a wooden toothpick to loosen the build up.
This always works well for me and I hope it does for you.
If so, please come back to Fixya and rate my advice!

I love my iron, BUT I used to be able to clean it by the recommended method, but now it will not shoot out steam to clean the holes. It does not steam on clothes even though I prees the steam button. ...

Put in as much white vinegar as possible and then turn iron on. Let it stay on for about 30 minutes the try the steam button. Once the steam button begins to work empty the vingar an fill with distilled water to rinse. You'll need to rinse several times to get all of the vinegar out.

When using the steam it spits out sediment on the clothes. I have tried cleaning by holding the steam button.

This happens due to limescale and / or build ups of mineral deposits such as iron in the water. You will need to use a kettle descaling solution or an iron descaling solution available from most supermarkets or home appliiance stores and clean out the debris in the iron. It happens to most if not all irons and cleaning on a regular basis is the only answer or use very expensive 'iron water'

The iron has plenty of water in the reseviour but will not steam. I have press the steam button and steam comes out but it will not steam otherwise

Your iron may be due for a cleaning. After awhile the ports inside the iron become clogged with mineral deposits.

Try using a mix of 1/2 white vinegar and 1/2 water. place the mix in the reservoir and allow the iron to heat up for steam until the reservoir is empty. Then do a second round with plain distilled water. Clean the the iron plate of residue after it cools.
If the vinegar mix does not work (and you can do the mix a few times) try using a product such as "Lime Away" or "CLR" to dissolve the deposits. Hope this helps.

Rowenta steam iron no longer steams

Your local grocery or hardware store will sell "descaler" for coffee pots and irons.

Mix as instructed (water/descaler) and pour the disolved mix into the iron. Set the iron on the highest steam settings (heat and steam volume). After it is hot, let it steam into the sink, pressing the steam button over and over to let the descaler work through all the tubes/passages, until it has all been pumped out.

Refill with more descaler (if it is not completely unplugged) and repeat until you are satisifed with how the iron is working.

After descaling, run clean water through it with the same process (but no descaler) several times.
